This is the bike, PROJECT BIKE that it may be, that changed to world of motorcycling as most people know it today. Say what? It's true. When BMW introduced the R1100RS in late 1993 on the Island of Lanzarote in the canary Islands to the press and dealers from around the world and then in early 1994 to the buying public as a 1994 model year they had accomplished what all the naysayers said could not be done.

We've got to admit that every time we get what is essentially a brand new bike in trade that is not a BMW we sort of feel like we're a dealer for that brand. This one is/was officially one of our DEMO bikes here at Bob's BMW. With just 1,216 gentle miles it is ready for a new home and owner as well as time and thought given to what extras will make that person enjoy this fabulous machine even more. It was placed into service by our sales department at the very end of December 2015 and has factory warranty coverage through June 1, 2019 which is a longer term than a standard bike as it was an official DEMO, but the 36,000 mile limit of the original 3/36 BMW warranty remains in place.

This is truly a one-of-a-kind machine in search of a special owner to bring it back to life, ride it, show it off, share it at events and have a great deal of fun doing so. This special build was in storage for at least the last two decades and quite possibly longer in a dry commercial warehouse so it has not been run in quite some time. We did get a good bit of the machines history from the last owner and the person responsible for this very cool creation you see in these 60 or so images which is more photos than we've ever shared any PROJECT BIKE.

This is a shop favorite machine (sort of like a favorite wine at your local beer and wine shop) and one that Bob personally thinks is one of the true investment sleepers from the 1980's in terms of future value for collectors. He has one that he shares every day when customers visit the dealership. It's hanging from the ceiling with the tires carefully balanced on one of the built in shelves near the main entrance so one can get a full undistorted view of the great lines and styling that the designers at BMW put into this small but highly capable 650 cc sport bike.

When it rains it occasionally pours. While there have been countless times we've had multiple GS's, RT's and several non BMW models especially from the Ducati family on the floor at the same time this is the first time we've had two (2) Ducati Diavel's. This bright Piedmont Red Metallic example is a great and operable PROJECT BIKE that will require very little to get back on the road in totally safe and roadworthy shape. In fact it's almost there now! The K12RS is a fantastic sport/sport touring machine and has a long history of pleasing its owners over the years. The lucky buyer who grabs this one should get great value for the money spent for many years and miles ahead.And while it is a PROJECT BIKE there is plenty of value here and nearly a turnkey purchase that simply does not meet or insanely high standards for what we'd classify as a good used or ADVANTAGE CERTIFED offering. Not everyone will even care about the small to medium array of minor scrapes and nicks the prior owner accumulated, touched up but selected to not address on a high cosmetic level – some people just like to ride.

We feel this machine is a great PROJECT BIKE to get back on the road and have a ton of fun with because the K12RS is a fantastic sport/sport touring machine. Period. This example arrived in a very high cosmetic level rating after completing our very picky evaluation process.But it does not run because it's been sitting unused for the last 18 or so months. That's why it's a PROJECT BIKE. But because it has such low original mileage and is so beautiful we are confident someone will want to take it on, make the investment, get it back on the road and have a lot of FUN.

So why does it have less than 2,000 original miles? Because when it was purchased by the original and only owner he just did not know what it was all about. It ended up that it did not fit his true motorcycling needs. This happens all too often in dealerships around the country. Here at Bob's we make a point of both offering this opportunity up but seeing that it happens. On nearly every new and used bike we help people select to purchase. Prospective buyers should be entitled to try out, demo or test ride what they believe they are interested in. Period. It's just one of the things we do to help our customers from A to Z. But this less than ideal start for another person means you might get a very fine opportunity to own a bike model that Bob has ridden and thoroughly enjoys!

This machine been getting some serious attention on the showroom floor in the few days since it arrived; and it should be. But it's also not what you expect to greet you front and center when you walk into one of the countries best known exclusive BMW dealerships even if Bob's sells nearly as many used bikes every year as we do new ones and a healthy number of those pre-owned motorcycles are not BMW's.So even this write up or bike story as we like to call them may look and read a little different too. These Valkyrie 1800's are a very special build and vision from Honda; perhaps a little Gold Wing, a little F6B and a little Rune all blended up just perfectly. Great lines, superb ergonomics especially for a big sport standard or borderline cruiser and a fantastic vision with the nearly all matte black driveline, chassis and wheels and trim.

This bike has about 12k miles on it. Still has the fender to fender warranty from Suzuki that conveys with the bike. The warranty is good until April 2019 so buy with peace of mind. Clean bike, never dropped or downed.Basic mods: PIA headlights, windscreen, Frame sliders, swingarm sliders, adjustable shorty levers, weighted bar ends for improved commuting and long rides.This bike gets dealer service every season. Most recent maintenance was oil chang, new spark plugs, K&N air fliter, tires, brake pads. Dealer lubes and adjusts cables and chain. 1981 GS 450 L Suzuki 30,928 mi. Garaged for 36 years, one owner, as high a state of cosmetic excellence that could ever be expected. Truly collectors quality. The story on this one will be short and sweet, this is nearly a new motorcycle. Originally sold at Bob's in February of 2016 we just took it in trade (new owner made a very nice step up/upgrade) and while it really was not due for service we did freshen up a few items (below) to start the next owner on a good course of fun and pleasure on their next or possibly first BMW.This is a loaded version of BMW's fabulous and high demand smaller GS. It came from the factory with ESA II, ABS, TPM, Center stand, Bag Mounts, Sport Screen, Heated Grips, On Board Computer, ASC and a few other goodies that BMW included that fall into the Comfort and Market launch packages.
