This is the bike, PROJECT BIKE that it may be, that changed to world of motorcycling as most people know it today. Say what? It's true. When BMW introduced the R1100RS in late 1993 on the Island of Lanzarote in the canary Islands to the press and dealers from around the world and then in early 1994 to the buying public as a 1994 model year they had accomplished what all the naysayers said could not be done.
This one is/was officially one of our DEMO bikes here at Bob's BMW. With just 1,216 gentle miles it is ready for a new home and owner as well as time and thought given to what extras will make that person enjoy this fabulous machine even more. It was placed into service by our sales department at the very end of December 2015 and has factory warranty coverage through June 1, 2019 which is a longer term than a standard bike as it was an official DEMO, but the 36,000 mile limit of the original 3/36 BMW warranty remains in place.
This is truly a one-of-a-kind machine in search of a special owner to bring it back to life, ride it, show it off, share it at events and have a great deal of fun doing so. This special build was in storage for at least the last two decades and quite possibly longer in a dry commercial warehouse so it has not been run in quite some time. We did get a good bit of the machines history from the last owner and the person responsible for this very cool creation you see in these 60 or so images which is more photos than we've ever shared any PROJECT BIKE.
This is a shop favorite machine (sort of like a favorite wine at your local beer and wine shop) and one that Bob personally thinks is one of the true investment sleepers from the 1980's in terms of future value for collectors. He has one that he shares every day when customers visit the dealership. It's hanging from the ceiling with the tires carefully balanced on one of the built in shelves near the main entrance so one can get a full undistorted view of the great lines and styling that the designers at BMW put into this small but highly capable 650 cc sport bike.
This bright Piedmont Red Metallic example is a great and operable PROJECT BIKE that will require very little to get back on the road in totally safe and roadworthy shape. In fact it's almost there now! The K12RS is a fantastic sport/sport touring machine and has a long history of pleasing its owners over the years. The lucky buyer who grabs this one should get great value for the money spent for many years and miles ahead.And while it is a PROJECT BIKE there is plenty of value here and nearly a turnkey purchase that simply does not meet or insanely high standards for what we'd classify as a good used or ADVANTAGE CERTIFED offering. Not everyone will even care about the small to medium array of minor scrapes and nicks the prior owner accumulated, touched up but selected to not address on a high cosmetic level – some people just like to ride.
We feel this machine is a great PROJECT BIKE to get back on the road and have a ton of fun with because the K12RS is a fantastic sport/sport touring machine. Period. This example arrived in a very high cosmetic level rating after completing our very picky evaluation process.But it does not run because it's been sitting unused for the last 18 or so months. That's why it's a PROJECT BIKE. But because it has such low original mileage and is so beautiful we are confident someone will want to take it on, make the investment, get it back on the road and have a lot of FUN.
Great potential awaits the individual whose quick response gets them this PROJEC T BIKE and it's being offered just in time for spring too. Yes, it clearly has needs that will cause the next owner to spend a few evenings or weekends giving it the attention, cleaning, care and light repairs it needs to be back on the road in safe and roadworthy condition. And it's being offered with a full complement of BMW luggage.Along with the above some small replacement parts, maintenance items and a battery should be all that's needed as best we can tell from our evaluation. It's simply not been used over the past few seasons and it was loved by the first owner and as you can clearly see dropped more than one time.
The story on this one will be short and sweet, this is nearly a new motorcycle. Originally sold at Bob's in February of 2016 we just took it in trade (new owner made a very nice step up/upgrade) and while it really was not due for service we did freshen up a few items (below) to start the next owner on a good course of fun and pleasure on their next or possibly first BMW.This is a loaded version of BMW's fabulous and high demand smaller GS. It came from the factory with ESA II, ABS, TPM, Center stand, Bag Mounts, Sport Screen, Heated Grips, On Board Computer, ASC and a few other goodies that BMW included that fall into the Comfort and Market launch packages. We've sold a great number since the introduction a few years back. At Bob's and around the planet they are seen as one of the great values in mid-sized do-it-all motorcycles from any manufacturer. And because these carry the BMW logo the overall build quality is much higher, just as the fun and dependability factor is. A lower mile, cleaner example will probably be impossible to find.This one was delivered to the only owner its ever had in September of 2014. It received a full annual inspection here at Bob's at 1,100 miles in June of 2016 and with just under 400 miles since there's nothing to update this soon. But we still ran it through our extensive inspection, the State MSI and took it out for an extended test ride to ensure everything works perfectly which it does. The front tire has solidly 75% of its useful tread remaining and the rear is closer to 80% as it was replaced since sold but the mileage was not recorded as it was a customer carry in job which we do all the time.
Wow, talk about a hot bike and reluctant seller! This was Bob's personal bike. We fully anticipated he'd be riding this one for quite some time on special days, using it as his daily and very sporty commuter, etc. after he spent considerable time crafting his vision with a bunch of staff input.There's a very impressive list of changes and additions to make this R9T sportier than most. He was also careful to not spend insane levels of money (something the staff was more than happy to help him do) while also doing a few things that no one else had done at the time – there have been a few partial copies constructed for our local clients since, but only a few.
We still don't get enough of these sweet bikes to satisfy the regular demand and the K1200R is a machine that we believe will continue to be desirable for years to come simply because it is so much fun to ride. Heck it can be both a street bike and a track bike and loaded up with luggage a very capable sport tourer. There's a top management guy at BMW who has a really tricked out example he regularly uses on the track.So get your imagination going and get in here to check it out; based on the few past offerings it will not be here long.According to the history on this specific bike this bike has had just one owner. It first came into Bob's in 2014 when he moved into the area and the bike had just 16,500 miles. It was due for lots of scheduled maintenance plus an few outstanding recalls plus it was in need of a fresher battery and new tires.
This gently used R12RT is a prime example of one of our most sought after pre-owned machines. Like many of our clients this person, the original and only owner, traveled past other dealers in the region to call Bob's BMW "their local dealer". The F800GT is a bike that can handle day to day riding as well as longer weekend rides with a pillion and luggage, all while staying comfortable and safe thanks to its great ergonomics, full fairing with windscreen, and great features such as ABS and ASC. It's even at home on twisty back roads thanks to the sweet handling, grabby brakes, and nicely rounded engine. This machine is truly a great all-rounder. This particular model was a single owner bike originally purchased and serviced here. It saw a complete service shortly before being traded and needed nothing more than a fresh rear tire when we took it in. It passed the MSI and our PPI with flying colors, making it an ADVANTAGE CERTIFIED machine.
This is a really clean used K1300S and they typically don't hang around too long before finding a new home and very happy next owner. So it represents a fine opportunity if you act quickly and grab this very sweet example before others do as the weather has just broken and the roads are clean. It is truly a perfect machine and this color combination makes it somewhere between a stealth bike and a gentleman's sport tourer with emphasis on the sport definition, at least that's the writers option. Bob's BMW rarely skimps when it comes to ordering bikes from Germany and we just don't get many lightly equipped machines and as this was originally ordered, stocked and sold at Bob's it is very nicely equipped with factory extras. And it has several very good looking and functional options that were added after delivery.
Quite a few K1200GT's have come and gone this year, a few never even made it to the website because the smartest clients we have in this area of the business know to give us a call and ask what is headed our way, just arrived or we've simply not had time to photograph and write up for the website as yet.This machine was originally going to be a PROJECT BIKE and sold AS IS but it was just too nice cosmetically and mechanically even though it had a few needs. So we elected to invest in making it better all-around before sending it off to a new home. Now that we've serviced it, someone looking for a great value in a large displacement touring machine will be very excited.
