1940 Indian Four, This fully restored 1940 Indian Four is a beautiful, fully functional classic motorcycle. It starts easily, usually with the first ignition kick, warms up quickly and is soon ready to ride. I love the way the bike handles and how it sits. It has a great sound with lots of low end power. Shifting and clutching are distinct and easy. The shift handle is on the right hand side, with first pulled back towards the rider, then shift through neutral to second and then forward into third. Shifting is effortless and fun. The clutch has a split pedal, with the ability to lock down the clutch with the inside clutch pedal if needed. I wouldn’t hesitate to go start the bike right now and take it on a 50 mile ride. I expect the value of this nearly 75 year old bike to rapidly appreciate in value.

1940 Indian Chief, Just back from the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston where it was featured as part of the "Sculpted in Steel" Exhibit. The 1940 Indian Chief was an important motorcycle for Indian. It was the first Indian to introduce the trademark skirted fenders and rear suspension. Additionally, 1940 & 1941 were the only years to have the 130mph speedo and 18" optional wheels. This 40 Chief is a older restoration and was featured in the "Sensuous Steel Art Deco Automobiles" display at the Frist center for the visual arts in Nashville Tennessee. It has just returned from the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston where it was featured in the "Sculpted in Steel" exhibit. The bike will come with many notes and coffee table books from both museum exhibits. It has been fully serviced and is an excellent runner that was ridden frequently last year. Currently it is in storage / display mode but can be returned to running in a few hours by our technicians. This Chief also features the "Bonneville" engine which was a factory performance upgrade over the standard Chief. Please contact John at 248-920-2080 for more information.

Indian described their Four-Cylinder model as "The World's Most Beautiful motorcycle."  One look at this machine proves it.  This bike was painstakingly restored and lovingly ridden for many years by my grandfather in Northern ohio.  The frame and engine numbers match.  Exact year of the sidecar is unknown; however, this model sidecar was first available from Indian in 1939.  The engine was completely rebuilt approximately 10 years ago and has around 1,000 miles on it since the rebuild.  Everything that could be kept original was kept original.  There is a weld/repair on rear of the engine case as shown in the photos.  This bike was last ridden in summer of 2012.
