This is not a recent cafe build. I don't know for sure if this bike was raced or not, but I suspect it was in the 70's. There are alot of receipts dating back to 1986, mostly electrical parts, fork parts etc. One early invoice states the engine has an S2 cam and cut pistons. There's also a Dunstall 1974 850 electrical schematic.

Up for sale 1974 Norton with a little over 2,500 original miles. The bike was purchased from the original owner after it won first place for best restored motorcycle at the 2007 Detroit Autorama in its first showing. The first owner bought the bike new in 1976, took it home with 8.5 factory test miles on it and parked it in his collection of 30 bikes untouched. In 2006 he decided to ride it for the first time. He converted it from a high rider to a roadster using aluminum tank and side covers fabricated by the master Evan Wilcox and fitting a Norton Corbin seat. The front brake was updated and Boyer ignition replaced the points. Any perished parts were replaced with OEM Norton parts if possible. MK III isolastics were installed and stainless fasteners were used in critical areas. Within a few months he became ill and passed away never having ridden it. Work receipts available indicating well over $25k in restoration worth have been completed. All service records available. In 2006/7, the bike was registered for the first time in in California for road use.A Norton factory trained mechanic went thru the bike for a second time and made some changes that he recommended. He changed out the counter sprocket for a 19 verse the original 20, put in a Barnett clutch, heim head steady, Fiamm horns, roadster style headlight, new exhaust pipes and mufflers, and a covenant fork upgrade. All the original parts: bronze clutch plates, high rider headlight, turn signals, choke and cables, head steady, air box, horn, cross over pipes, mufflers, and roadster seat have never been and will come with the bike as well as the owners manual, tool kit, a tank bag with tire tube, extra Boyer ready to go and electric air pump. All parts to bring back to factory set up are here. It still has the break in instruction sticker on the speedo. I have included pictures of how it looked when purchased and photos of how it is set up currently. The bike has always been stored inside and has never even had water used to clean it. It has never been in the rain either. I wipe it down and polish it. Show it, ride it, or both. I chose to ride it on a limited basis and the rest of the time I just like to sit and stare at it.All documentation, original bill of sale from 1976 dealer purchase, verification of history, all work orders and parts lists from both top notch mechanics will come with the bike. You will not find a better sorted Norton. This Norton is in pristine condition. On 8/24/2016, the bike received brand new Dunlop matching tires as originally specified in 74; an oil change; and a brand new clutch line cable.

1974 Norton 850 Commando – Barn Find - 7104 Original Miles One Owner – Original Texas Title and Chilton’s Manual Bought new in 1974 - in storage unit since 1977. Poor fellow fell in love and the little lady made him park it. Two good parts to this story; he still has his lovely wife and someone can now put this great bike back on the road. When he parked it he did it right – all fluids properly drained. The Norton still looks great, as you can see from the pictures. The surface rust on the chrome seems to polish up nicely, before I ran out of motivation to keep polishing. All original as it came out in ’74. Includes storage rack, backseat rest and the factory alarm system. It has not been fired up since we got it, but has good compression. Looking forward to hearing if the new owner plans to keep it as original or build a café racer. I’d love to make it mine, except already have three other projects going.

Very original 1974 roadster in candy red with original tool kit and both Union keys (ignition & fork lock). I planned on keeping this forever so I put Hagon shocks and 750 style header pipes with 750 exhaust nuts etc. to make it a reliable and comfortable bike.  This is 90% untouched, no wrench marks on engine bolts etc. no broken fins, original frame paint and chrome.  This has been freshly tuned, fluids, carbs, tires etc. and is ready to ride.  Starts well, runs strong very original. The Good: -          Very low original miles -          Original frame tag in great condition -          Original Candy Red Paint on side covers, tank was professionally repainted recently (Steel tank and side covers) -          Original Smith Speedo Drive -          Both original Union keys (fork lock & Ignition) -          Manuals and original tool role / pouch -          Original lucas glass (blinkers, taillight, headlight) -          Original hearingbone oil lines -          Gauges are functioning and nice -          New Dunlop k81’s -          New seat cover -          Fenders are original and in great shape -          Fork seals are new -          Clutch is new -          Battery is new -          Brake hose new - Front -          New K&N filter in original airbox -          New hagon rear shocks -          Both Center stand / side stands all there etc. The Not As Good: - I shortened the front signal stems as my personal preference.  The right front stock has chrome pitting. - Side covers have a few nicks and scratches / fading

Norton Commando 850. Excellent condition rider quality bike. Ridden occasionally - 15k miles. Not a showpiece, but could be parked at any bike meet and it will draw people in. This is a rider that could be left as-is, or easily done a slight rolling restoration. The 850 Commandos are wonderful and long-respected bikes for a real reason. This one has been converted to single carb for easier running/tuning, and appears to be a late 74 with right side shift. Matching numbers engine and frame. Better condition than many I've seen restored. More photos - :// /user/greggearhead/library/BP/1975%20Norton%20Commando
