This particular bike has resided on my block now for over 42 years.  I first saw it drive by when I was 19.  I was impressed as the owner Don, who was our neighbor and mailman always putted by so slowly, and so quietly.  I remember it was not like a Honda 305, or a BSA like my cousin owned in the 60's.  I told myself that one day I would buy Dons bike.  As time went on, I grew up, had children, rode a dual sport type Yamaha 600 (Thumper) occasionally, and always kept in the back of my mind owning Dons R75/5.About 15 years ago, I saw Don one evening walking to the corner, I never had spoken to him, but now in my mid 40's, I had to talk to him and ask him if he still had the BMW, since he didn't seem to be delivering the mail anymore, and I never saw him drive by.  He told me he had it the garage, said he bought it in '74, he was the 2nd owner.  A couple of years past, and I saw that Dons house was for sale, I found out Don had passed away, and the estate was in probate. Another 6 months, maybe a bit longer passed, and one day coming home from worked, I saw my bike in Jims garage.  I stopped and asked, was that Dons BMW ?  Jim said yeah!  He had just purchased it from Dons son (somehow), and then I told Jim the story, that I'm sharing with everyone now.  Jim likes to work on motorcycles, clean them up, tinker with brakes and carbs and get them running again.  I simply said to Jim, "whenever you decide to sell it, please knock on my door, I will buy it from you!"Well, March 2005, I get laid off from a 9 year job, three months later Jim is knocking on my door, "hey, I have the bike for sale in Craigslist, and a guy is coming to see it right now.  You said you wanted me to let you know when I was ready to sell it"  I simply said, "How Much" and 'Will you take a check ?" So finally I got my bike after 30 years of waiting.  Funny thing, I never rode the bike.  Just kept it with my collection of other bikes. Now at 60 plus, it's that time, kids have grown up, I've given a few bikes to my sons, and I've elected to sell a couple other vintage bikes to get rid of some cluster. So.....Up for offer is my 1973 BMW R75/5 motorcycle, it is original, except for maybe the battery, plugs and sparkplug cables. Speedo shows 43,xxx miles.  Everything works!  Asking price $11,500

Clear title in my name, titled off the '72 frame number. Total engine and chassis overhaul. Every segment of the motorcycle has been completely disassembled---engine, gearbox, primary and clutch, swingarm, forks. The engine rebuild was a meticulous overhaul. Our shop inspected and replaced every intricate part that showed wear. The crankshaft main bearings and seals were replaced. New connecting rod big-end bearings were installed on polished journals. The cams were polished and lifters refaced. The oil pump was overhauled. The pistons and rings were replaced. The valve guides were replaced with Precision Engineering bronze guides. The valves are Black Diamond, which is the best quality in the industry. Valve springs are heavy duty Kibblewhites. A copper head gasket was installed to eliminate leaking.Upgraded carburetors to new genuine Amal Concentric 'Premier'. Newest and best on the market. Look just like the originals, but have better internals. The exhaust headers are new T120TT pipes. The gearbox was overhauled with all-new bushings and bearings. The gears were in good shape, with no chipped or damaged teeth. The clutch has been improved by installing Barnett heavy-duty clutch springs and clutch plates. The primary chain was replaced. The stock points and condensers ignition system has been replaced with modern electronic ignition. The charging system has been updated with a solid-state regulator/rectifier. Total chassis overhaul. The steering head bearings have been updated to tapered bearings. The frame has been painted. The fork tubes were replaced, fork internals overhauled. All wheel bearings have been replaced. The rims and spokes are original Dunlop units, and honestly look like new. Tires are new Dunlop K81 TT100 (rear 4.25X18 and front 4.10X19). I am willing to install any new tires of your choosing. Both wheels have been speed-balanced. The entire engine has been bead-blasted and painted. The original Smiths instruments are in good working condition. The seat and tailpiece is new. The gas tank and fenders have been painted. The lettering is painted, not decals. The overhauled engine has been properly broken in.The head has been re-torqued, the valves re-adjusted, and the oil changed. The levers are genuine Dougherty, as were found on the late 60's BSA Spitfire. Many manufacturers had traveled down the scrambler-style street-oriented route before Honda, including BSA and Triumph. None of them, though, were as successful as Honda and their CL350 model, and according to Honda restoration guru Charlie O?Hanlon, none of them have the same cachet. They were built to be ridden, they were built to be reliable, and they were built for people to have fun on them. Honda broke open the American market for small, rider-friendly motorcycles in 1959 when they established their import business in LA. Prior to Honda, many of the motorcycles being ridden on the streets and in the dirt in the U.S. were heavy American-built V-twins. Lighter British iron was more sporting, but still featured relatively crude production qualities.

FASTTT SALES, LLC 1967 BSA SPITFIRE MARK III SPECIAL 1967 BSA Spitfire Mark III SpecialThis listing is for an extremely well restored BSA Spitfire. The 1967 model year brought the best to BSA, especially the Spitfire. The previous year (1966) was a good idea and a beautiful motorcycle, but, had deficiencies such as GP carbs (difficult to keep the bike running!). So, the 1967 solved the problems....an outstanding street/performance bike while retaining the beautiful styling. This motorcycle has the best of the model year....polished Borrani rims, home market tank and, of course, the correctly finished 190mm front brake. The motorcycle was completely restored, mechanically and cosmetically. Many NOS parts were used and every part received refinishing/restoration. Take a good look at the pictures. The high quality work was done by Roger Jones of Georgia....his restorations have earned numerous “Best of Show” and "Best of class" awards... and you can see why! Following restoration, the motorcycle was ridden a mere 9 miles and has been kept in climate controlled conditions (in my personal collection) since. It would be difficult to imagine a better restoration of this model. It’s unique beauty puts it in a class with the BSA Rocket Gold Star and other rare BSA motorcycles. The motorcycle is sold with a newly issued, South Carolina title (and of course matching frame and engine ). The price is a very reasonable $14,299 or Best Offer. FASTTT SALES, LLC 1963 BSA ROCKET GOLD STAR This listing is for a beautifully restored 1963 BSA Rocket Gold Star in Scrambles trim. This extraordinarily rare motorcycle was restored by Tim Bardsley of Ontario, Canada. Tim is the best on these rare BSA motorcycles...he understands them and, as you can readily see, has great attention to detail! The rarity of these motorcycles is simply in their purpose. They were built for competition and competition only! Thus, the lack of electrics, tail lamps, head lamps, etc. They were ridden hard and in most cases, the limited number built, didn't survive and were damaged in competition/practice. This one not only survived, but, was in great condition and an excellent candidate for restoration. OK, all that about competition! The bike is beautiful! Incredibly beautiful! It’s small tank and racing seat....the high exhausts and the clean, uncluttered design all contribute to one of, if not the best, competition motorcycles of the British motorcycle era. The motorcycle was comprehensively restored....meaning mechanically and cosmetically. Look at the pictures and you will see the high quality workmanship.....none better!! The motorcycle has a clear title and a Dating Certificate from the BSA Owner’s Club. You can be assured that the motorcycle is accurately restored and the numbers are correct for this motorcycle. BSA Rocket Gold Stars have long been the “sought after” British classic. This one, in Scrambles Trim, is no exception! We offer this very rare motorcycle at a reasonable $14,499. We are thrilled to offer such a unique and rare piece of motorcycle history. If you’ve got a Triumph-sized hole in your collection and want something pretty wild and very cool, this might fit the bill. The Triumph Hurricane X75 was a bit of a mongrel from the word go. Originally a BSA design, with very sleepy, Triumph Bonneville-esque style, the honchos felt it was way too conservative for American tastes. Famous designer Craig Vetter was tasked with a stylistic redo, and the resulting bike was different, to say the least, with a very 60’s chopper style and a distinctive triple exhaust slung along the right side of the bike. When BSA went under, 1,200 engines were put aside and the bike was rebranded as a Triumph.Three cylinder motorcycles in general are pretty neat sounding machines. Not quite as brutal as a thumping twin or single, not as smooth or refined as a four [or six!], triples make a very raw, iron-fist-in-a-velvet-glove kind of roar. Vetter was commissioned by BSA's US distributor to customise the BSA Rocket 3 to appeal more to American tastes. When, in 1968, the new BSA Rocket 3/Triumph Trident triples were shown to the American BSA-Triumph management, they were underwhelmed. They knew Honda had an important bike (the CB750) coming along, and they felt the triple's price of $1800 [4] was too high and that technical details (like vertically-split crankcases and pushrod ohv valve train) were far from "cutting edge". However, they acknowledged that the bike was fast, and a sales team led by BSA Vice-President Don Brown decided to launch the bike by using a Rocket-3 to set some records at Daytona, records which were broken in 1971 by the Kawasaki Z1. Brown felt that the BSA/Triumph triples needed a different look to succeed in the USA, and he engaged designer Craig Vetter to give the BSA A75 a customised face-lift, with a brief to make it "sleeker and more balanced". (Brown revealed the Vetter project to Peter Thornton, President of BSA/Triumph North America, but as Brown's initiative had not been authorised by BSA, Vetter had problems being paid, waiting two years for his fee). Vetter created the Triumph Hurricane in the summer of 1969,[5] and in October 1969 he unveiled the prototype with "BSA" on the tank as the new ‘Rocket Three’.[6] Thornton and the American officials were impressed, and Vetter's bike was then sent to the UK, but the bike arrived in England just as the BSA marque was about to be ended. At BSA-Triumph's design facility at Umberslade Hall, the design was seen as too "trendy" by chief designer Bert Hopwood; but after very positive public reaction to the design when it appeared on the front of US magazine Cycle World in October 1970, the UK managers changed their minds. They realised they had a large stock of obsolete BSA Rocket-3 parts that could now be turned into a premium-priced motorcycle. Engineer Steve Mettam was given the job of supervising production for the 1972/3 season; and the Vetter BSA Rocket3 became the Triumph X75 Hurricane. 1,183 engines were put aside for X75 production. However, BSA was facing bankruptcy and the design went into a limited production run of 1200 as the Triumph X-75 Hurricane in 1972. Production stopped in 1973 after the X-75 was unable to meet new American noise standards. BIGGER IS BETTER (back Ground) The MOV was doing so well that a larger version was needed & by lengthening the stroke, they created the 350cc Velocette MAC in 1934. It became the real bread winner for Velocette Motorcycles, their best-selling model. The much-needed capital was invested in an entirely new design, a big 500cc OHV single sport version to be called the MSS in 1935. This utilized an all-new frame, developed from the MkV KTT race machines & shared this frame with the KSS MkII, 1936-48. The MSS was another runaway hit for Velocette Motorcycles. World War II halted production which did not resume until much later. The 1935 MSS was a much more modern machine with the same frame as the Velocette MAC and was fitted with sidecar lugs and had optional panniers to appeal to the touring market. Buyers started tuning the MSS for speed, however, and the factory responded by producing the sports Velocette Venom model. Burt Monro from New Zealand, featured in the film "The World’s Fastest Indian" chose a 1936 MSS 500cc raced a heavily modified Velocette MSS. Racing preparations including making special pistons, changing the frame and increasing bored out engine capacity to 650cc. His top speed record on this motorcycle was 138 mph. with a 1/4 mile time of 12.31 seconds. This fine example is reported to be an excellent runner and fun to ride.
