1949 HARLEY DAVIDSON SOLO 45’ FLAT HEAD CHOPPER WITH CLEAN TITLE The ’45 Special’ is a vintage chopper that features an original uncut 1949 Harley Davidson Solo 45’ frame with 80’s chopper styling. This unique bike always attracts a lot of attention. The 1959 flat head engine was fully rebuilt in 2000 and has only a few hours on it. It features matching belly number cases and high compression aluminum heads. It looks and runs great. It even rides well if you dare! A suicide shifter, foot operated clutch, 10” extended springer front end and Z bars will bring a whole different perspective to the rider up to the challenge. The bike was built by NHRA champion Ted Cyr. Ted was a master machinist, engine builder and the first NHRA driver in the 7’s. Unfortunately, just as the bike was being completed in December 2008, Ted passed away. As a final tribute to Ted, his family and friends gathered together to fire up the bike for the first time but it was never ridden that day. The bike was then displayed for a few years until I bought it from his daughter Mary. This 45 inch flat head engine has great compression and is very powerful. The bike starts right up, runs, revs and idles very well. The open header exhaust sounds very healthy and the engine has no funny noises. It even starts on the first kick when warm. The 3 speed transmission shifts positively and quietly. The clutch works properly with limited slippage. All of the lights and switches work properly. The front and rear brakes work properly. Some features of the bike include:Aluminum high compression headsPistons tops are cast with “Made in the USA”Zenith Bendix 38mm Carburetor “Made in the USA” with custom manifoldNew spark plugsNew Drag Specialties vintage style 6 volt batteryNew 6 volt generator “Made in the USA”New chrome voltage regulatorPaugcho 10” extended springer chrome front endCustom made chrome Z bars mounted on 3” risersChrome open header dual exhaustCustom Z themed tank paint with matching fenders, primary and chain guardChrome tank mounted shifterChrome clutch pedal assemblyChrome air cleaner assemblyChrome foot boards 18” mini drum brake front wheelOriginal 16” rear wheel and drum brake assembly with chromed rim, spokes and hubVintage style 5.10-16 Chen Shin rear tireCustom dash panel with keyed ignition, toggle switches and indicator lampsNew chrome brake/tail light & license plate mountNew solo saddle seat with original plunger post Clean California title as a 1959 Harley Davidson1959 engine with matching belly number cases1949 original Harley Davidson Solo 45 framePlenty of paperwork with receipts and repair & parts manuals $8000 or best offer Delivery available, if you come buy the bike first

Motor is a 1940 UH, 80 cubic inch, with less than 50 hours on a complete rebuild. fitted into a 1935 VL frame. It has a mid-fifty’s 4 speed ratchet top transmission. The frame, forks, tanks and fenders are original. Wheels and hubs are new, black rim stainless spokes. Tires are new Avon MKII 4.00 x 18. All the black you see is powder coat, except for the headlight. There have been no modifications to the frame. Tank were done inside and out by Moyers Tanks, Greensburg Pa. Basics....It is a correct 1937 frame, although frames in 37 had no serial numbers. It's a three finger rake. Nothing has been cut from the frame. All the original tabs are there, including the ones for side car mounts. The engine has maybe a thousand miles on it since it was built by Paul Friebus (American Cycle Fabrication). Holder of Bonneville Land Speed record with a 1937 flathead at 180 mph. Here's a link americancyclefab . com/ Cost of the engine/trans rebuild alone, was over $6,000. This bike will run 75 mph all day, which is pretty outstanding for a bike that couldn't go over 50 mph when it was new from the factory. Most of the bike is correct original, but I have made a few changes that are to my taste. Like, the tombstone tail light is not correct. 1937 had a bullet tail light. The footboards are 40's half moons. 1937 had long rectangular boards. These are just my preferences in style. The bike has Coker tires on the 18 inch stainless rims and spokes. The electrics have been upgraded from 6 volt to 12 volt, with a Cycle Electronics generator that has the built in solid state regulator (no more shorted points or batteries puking acid). The Linkert carb is from Paul's race bike and is nickel plated. I do have the original forward engine guard, which I do not care for. I've owned this bike since 2002 and have been through every piece of it. It's all done, unless you want to change the appearance to your own taste. If I did not have the issues with my back, I would ride it coast to coast without giving it a second thought. If you have any specific questions about the bike, let me know. Everything that was ever done to this bike was done with no cost spared. I still don't want to sell it, but I can't ride it anymore, and it would be a disgrace to let it sit in a garage until I'm gone. Ride it to the show, just remember, you'll need to tie the trophy down on the luggage rack. On Aug-15-15 at 11:19:37 PDT, seller added the following information:

Over the years, the storied builder of America's most coveted bikes has fully tapped our culture, inspiring t-shirts, tattoos and even other vehicles. In short: Harley-Davidson is more than just a motorcycle, it's a lifestyle. That said; it's the motorcycles that keep enthusiasts coming back. Nearly every year, model, frame and engine has its own set of diehards that swear by a particular Harley vision. But, no matter your preference, it's hard to deny the significance of a sweet bike like this 1948 UL Flathead. Restored by one of the best Harley gurus in the country, this world-class scoot is a shining example of why every gearhead loves a HOG. And if you're in the market for a little 2-wheel royalty, it's your first-class ticket to open road freedom! APPEARANCE Originally introduced in 1938, Harley-Davidson's UL Sport Solo line ran the gamut from broad-shouldered cruiser all the way to commercial utility bike. Lovingly restored, and kept on permanent display, this lust-worthy UL hasn't logged any miles since the last wrench was turned on its NOS Harley hardware. A mirror-like coat of black paint serves as the foundation for era-correct scallops that are detailed with red pin striping. At the front of that pigment, the dark vibes start with an NOS Harley fender, which parades NOS Harley trim and an NOS Harley light in front of a correct fuel tank. Simple and classically shaped, that attractive tank, equipped with a factory dash, breaks perfectly in to an NOS buddy seat that's propped on NOS buddy springs. That saddle hangs over a second NOS Harley fender that centers an NOS tombstone taillight behind an NOS Harley bumper. And overall, this UL features classy, retro-cool aesthetics that are sure to age just as well as their high quality components allow. ACCESSORIES Restored to mix timeless visuals with a roster of components that was tirelessly hoarded over many years, this HOG is a virtual Case Study in authenticity. Up front, a correct Springer fork rides between an NOS Beck headlamp, NOS Harley handlebars, NOS Beck throttle grips and a polished brake handle that controls a correct brake system. Behind those bars, NOS Harley pegs, NOS Harley running boards and NOS Harley mats let the rider kick back, stretch his or her legs and chase the sun. Beneath those components, NOS Harley exhaust hangs a finned tip behind NOS Harley slinky covers. And cool bits, like a polished horn, a yellow kick pedal and a vintage fire extinguisher, show that someone really sweated the details. CHASSIS By the late '40s Harley had successfully recovered from the Great Depression and kick started civilian production on the coat tails of World War II. The 1948 model year would be the last to use the Springer fork, but little else changed when it came to the bike's foundation. And, naturally, this UL has been fully rebuilt to era-correct status all the way down to its NOS shock absorber. That stiff suspension is great at ensuring the rider gets an authentic feel for the road. There's an NOS Harley electrical system that works well with an NOS Harley accessory carb choke. And everything rolls on NOS Harley rims, which twist NOS Beck tires around NOS hubs and NOS cadmium spokes. DRIVETRAIN After almost two decades of manufacture, Harley had tweaked their flathead engines into well-tuned running gear. That said; 1948 would be the last year of the Big Twin UL, as it and the brand's wildly popular 'Knucklehead' were replaced by an upgraded V-Twin that would eventually earn the nickname 'Panhead'. That means this bike's original, 74 cubic inch flathead was an interesting rarity even in its heyday. Naturally, that VIN-matched powerplant is outfitted with an array of NOS components, including aluminum motor heads and old school primary covers. Electricity still takes the shape of a 6-volt system, which is augmented with a vintage-look gel cell battery. And behind that zero-mile motor, a correct Harley 4-speed processes commands from an NOS Beck gearshift knob. In addition to great aesthetics, this incredible motorcycle provides an authentic riding experience that's sure to inspire memories for older bikers while creating plenty of adventure for young enthusiasts. Widely considered one of the most exclusive Harleys ever built, it only makes sense that a pristine example of the famed UL Flathead would make its way to the front of our legendary showroom. That means there's only one part of the story left to tell: the part where one lucky enthusiast rides their new classic in to a golden sunset. Ariel, BMW, BSA, Belle Plaine Excelsior Henderson, Harley Davidson, Indian Brave, Indian Enfield, Norton, Royal Enfield, Triumph, to name a few. 1953 Indian Brave. A short history of the Indian Brave: The first Indians were built in Springfield, MA in 1902.The duPont Company took control of the Indian Motocycle Company (yes MOTOcycle) in 1930, but poor profits from too few Army contracts inticed them to sell to Ralph Rogers in 1945. Rogers turned his engineering expertise to small vertical singles and twins, hoping to compete with the British invasion. He continued producing the Chief through 1948, but slowed production of the Chief in '49, concentrating instead on the new bikes. But the new bikes had been hastily engineered and badly produced. Rogers had borrowed heavily from Brockhouse Ltd. in England, who owned Excelsior Motorcycles in Birmingham. In 1950, Brockhouse called in the debt, and divided Indian into separate sales and manufacturing companies.Brockhouse introduced the Indian Brave you see here, which used a side-valve unit-construction engine. Its piston displaced 248.326 cc (76mm x 64.5mm bore). The bike featured a modified Albion three-speed gearbox and put out 8.25 HP. The motorcycle was capable of 50 mph cruising speed, with a top speed of nearly 60 mph, and got 80 mpg.Rogers went out of business in 1953, making the Springfield Indian Company here in America officially bankrupt. But Brockhouse still owned the rights to the Indian name, and was still selling their Braves to Indian dealerships here in America in 1954. According to my research, approximately 14,000 Indian Braves were produced and sold (both here in America and in England), which would make this bike number 7,502 out of apx 14,000.Brockhouse stopped manufacturing motorcycles in 1955 to concentrate on badging Royal Enfields as Indians, and imported these models to the Indian dealerships here in the US until 1960. But that's another chapter in Indian's history. This bike has been completely restored. Crankshaft-to-piston crown and wheel-to-wheel. Everything is new or re-fabricated. The original header and muffler are in very good condition. Mechanically, the bike needs nothing. The title is clear. The original chronometric speedometer is in beautiful condition. But the parts for the speedometer drive are no longer available, so the speedometer does not work. The bike has a wheel-base of 52.06". Tires are 300X18. Seat height is 29" without rider. Handlebar height measures 37" from center of grip-end to the road. Adjusting bars forward or backward will alter this height. Actual wet weight (ride-ready, w/battery, all fluids, 1/8 gallon gas in tank) is 233 pounds. (49% weight on front wheel, 51% of weight on rear wheel) Add 6 pounds per gallon of gas, which may alter front/rear weight percentages. Everything is stock except the piston (Wiseco), chain, sprockets, battery box .... The bike was produced and sold with NO battery box at all, battery just sticking out like a sore thumb. We fabricated a nice-looking, period-correct battery box. Also non-stock are the tires and inner tubes, cables, handlebar grips, many assorted bushings, bearings and gaskets. The seat is period-correct and was on the bike when we acquired it. All the wiring is new, fabricated and covered in period-looking sheathing, routed as we observed in 1953 advertising photos. I assume the handle bar levers are stock, as they look period-correct. They were on the bike when we acquired it. The frame is repainted, the tank and fenders are repainted. The decals are NOS, made in the late 40's/early 50's, purchased from the Indian Owners Club of America. They were very brittle, and we went through three sets before we succeeded, and even then the right side is not perfect. Tank has been clear-coated after the decals were applied. Totally re-thought to give you more of that big road-eating grin. The 2014 Harley-Davidson® CVO™ Road King® FLHRSE model is the ultimate cruiser motorcycle. As part of Project RushMore for 2014, the CVO™ Road King® has been redesigned from the ground up for more comfort, more power, better braking and handling and more classic style. The H-D® CVO™ Road King® motorcycle features the new Reflex™ anti-lock braking system (ABS) with dynamically, electronically linked brakes for optimum braking in all conditions. The FLHRSE Road King® model CVO™ has a detachable short custom wind deflector that cuts the wind for more comfortable riding. The H-D® CVO™ Road King® model offers custom extended saddlebags that add to the bike's premium touring capabilities. The new high-output Twin Cam 110™ engine with Screamin' Eagle badges provides 110 cubic inches of power, a low cruising rpm, more low end torque, more passing power, along with silky smooth shifting of its 6-speed cruise drive transmission. Chrome touring mufflers are a beautiful set of pipes that look great, sound impressive and keep rider and passenger safe from exhaust heat. The two-piece low profile saddle is available in solo or two-rider configurations, in leather styling the makes a unique custom statement. Key Features May Include: Twin Cam 110™ Engine Asking riders if they’d like passing power is like asking them “Would you like beer in the pitcher” when they have reached their final destination at the end of a long, dusty ride. Everybody wants it, and the Twin Cam 110™ Engine is 110 cubic inches of Harley-Davidson® V-Twin built you can rely on to deliver it. The result: massive low end torque and quick 60 to 80 mph 5th gear roll-on to get you around that 18-wheeler. In the tradition of the Flathead, Knucklehead, Panhead, Shovelhead, Evolution® Twin Cam 88® and Twin Cam 96™ engines that came before it, the new Twin Cam 110™ Engine is all about the feeling an engine delivers to the rider. There’s a reason we’re called the Harley-Davidson® Motor Company. Once you send some fuel this one, you’ll have do doubt what it is. Project RUSHMORE - Confidence Here are some of the innovations The Rider Project led to: the new Reflex™ Linked Brakes with Anti-lock Braking System. New dual halogen and LED headlamps, brighter Tour-Pak® lighting, brighter turn signals, brighter brake lights, and a new steering head with stiffer front forks. Locked-up tires are now history even when there’s wet pavement. We’ve made it feel even better to lean your way through a turn. Project RUSHMORE - Styling Project RUSHMORE is the journey we set out on to take our touring motorcycles to places never imagined before – to turn all the possibilities for what a motorcycle can be now into true Milwaukee steel. We did it our way, as we’ve always done. As riders. Riding with other riders. Thousand of hours, countless road tests, millions of miles. Looking for the technology and innovations that truly make the ride better. We went over the bike fender tip to fender tip. Making it work better. Making it look sleeker. Modern. Clean. Tight. Project RUSHMORE - Comfort The comfort of our machines has been dialed in the hard way: Over 96 years and thousands of miles in all kinds of conditions on every kind of street, road and highway ever laid down in pavement. Long hours in the saddle are the only way there is to learn what you need to know about things like airflow, heat management, seat materials and textures and the amount of effort it takes to pull a clutch lever. We don't stop until we build the most comfortable machines you can throw a leg over.
