Harley Davidson implemented their iconic 45 design in 1929. Initially it was nicknamed the “3-cylinder” because of how the generator stuck up. It was also during this time period that 45 CI (750cc) engines became the standard displacement for racing side-valve engines in American Motorcycle Association sanctioned events. The first 45 series were known as the DL from 1929-31. In 1932, the RL series was introduced. These were both total-loss oiling systems. In 1937, the W series was launched with the added benefit of a recirculating oil system. Harley-Davidson had begun releasing “hotter” versions during this time period, such as the WLDR and the later WR, which was a purpose-built race bike. These engines were also used in 3-wheelers and were designated with the letter G. Harley-Davidson kicked production of the 45 into high gear for the wartime effort. Military bikes were given the designation WLA, with the A designating its purpose in the Army. There was also a batch that was made to a slightly different specification for the Canadian Army. These were given the designation WLC. Because of the war effort, there were abundant supplies of spares manufactured, and caches of parts are still being discovered today. After World War II, Harley-Davidson continued production of the W series into 1952, when it first released the K series. The K’s were designed to compete with the onslaught of British bikes being imported into the U.S. They were now outfitted with a hand clutch and foot shift. This bike appears largely original, with all cycle parts appearing to be original, including its original paint. Ordered with the 18-inch chrome-wheel package, this bike also features one of the more unusual accessories in the Brush Cycle accessory seat for a child (or date) mounted on the front. With only 5,000 miles put on this motorcycle since new by its one owner, this particular unit is one of the most original and documented WLs on the planet, and will be sold with its original purchase papers, dealer invoice and option fees, an offer that’s hard to refuse.

2016 Triumph Scrambler, In stock now!! 2016 Triumph Scrambler In the 1960s, far from civilisation and regular roads, stripped down desert bikes based on Triumph twins and fitted with high level exhausts, dirt bike tyres and suspension were being used for hard recreational fun and competition on tough terrain. The Scrambler takes its inspiration from these very bikes. They were highly competitive and most famously were used by Hollywood superstar Steve McQueen for pleasure and in full competition. Including the 1964 International Six Day Trial (ISDT) in East Germany. We built the Scrambler to evoke that spirit of freedom and escape, carefree times when all you needed was a bike and somewhere to ride. Features may include: The Look Lean and basic, just as the originals were, the Scrambler reflects the look of 1960s Triumph twins, converted by their owners for off-road riding in deserts and open scrubland where the power of the engines could be used to the full. With its cut down mudguards and black engine finish, the Scrambler has a classic, rebellious style that is loved by so many riders. Engine Based on our Bonneville the Scrambler's engine is the classically styled parallel twin, as handsome as those 1960s originals, fitted into a tubular steel cradle frame, just as it should be. Exhaust High level twin chromed stainless steel exhaust pipes and evocative heat shields are inspired by the 1960s Triumph TR6C Trophy Special. Wheel The wheels are wire-spoke with black rims and hubs and wear dual-purpose tyres. The front is 19 inches in diameter to give that authentic off-road look. Performance For the Scrambler we retuned the 865cc eight-valve engine to give you more torque at very low revs. It peaks at a strong 68Nm at 4750rpm but keeps producing useful thrust much lower than that, with 90 per cent of its torque on tap from as low as 2500rpm. The power maximum is 59PS, enough for you to get up to all kinds of fun. Configuration Powered by a special version of our twin-cylinder Bonneville engine, the Scrambler is air-cooled and styled like the 1960s originals yet quietly bristling with 21st century technology to ensure it's efficient, durable and easy to use. Each cylinder has four valves, all operated by double overhead cams making for quieter operation, more accurate valve control and high rev reliability. And the exhaust meets all noise emission regulations but it's free breathing with a note that gives the Scrambler its unique character. So you get a proven and reliable engine, which is the most fuel efficient in our range. New Foundation Brake System Like riding itself, you can never go too far when it comes to improving a bike s brakes. This is why for 2014 we gave the brake system of each Sportster model a complete overhaul designed to improve performance, fit and finish. We increased the size of the brake rotors from 292mm to 300mm, and added a more powerful, stylized front caliper with 34mm pistons, and stylized rear caliper to match. Other system features include an improved all-aluminum integrated rear master cylinder with reservoir, new all-aluminum front master cylinder with reduced friction and higher efficiency, and stainless steel braided lines.
