Pulse was featured in Back to the Future 2. It has also been featured in a couple other movies back in the 1980s. If you have researched the Pulse, you will find it is a unique vehicle that will bring more attention than any other vehicle on the road. Most often many will pull over to the side of the road as you come by not knowing what they are seeing. One of the most fun vehicles you will ever own. The best part about it is the smiles it brings to people as you drive by.....see the website autocycles.org for more information. There were about 347 of these made between 1985 and 1990 in Owosso Michigan by the Owosso Motor Car Company. The first 21 were called Litestars and then the name changed to Pulse. A Pulse is a motorcycle. It rides on 2 main wheels and has 2 outrigger wheels (one on each side). It is classified in most states as a 3 wheel motorcycle. It has a 123" wheelbase and an overall length of 192" X 76" width X 54" height and weighs about 1000 lbs.The PULSE is a "GCRV", or Ground Cruising Recreational Vehicle. This new term appropriately describes the PULSE because the vehicle has the performance and acceleration of a motorcycle engineered into a comfortable weatherproof vehicle with many of the attributes of an automobile. An alternate term for the PULSE is an "autocycle".Its body resembles a high performance jet aircraft, yet drives like a sports car. The exceptionally long wheel base provides unmatched stability and driving comfort for a vehicle of its weight, class and fuel economy. It seats two (tandem) and has almost six (6) cubic feet of storage space.Slide back the canopy and settle into the comfortable cockpit of the PULSE. The full instrumentation is neatly arranged, oil light and temperature gauges & tachometer. Punch the accelerator, you're ready for take off working your way through the 5 gears as you slide effortlessly through the traffic or on an open freeway. The PULSE provides a driving experience unequalled in any other type of vehicle.The PULSE is a two (2) wheeled vehicle equipped with an additional two (2) wheels, located as outriggers, one on each side. The outrigger wheels provide balance for the vehicle when it is at rest or in a turn.As the gyroscopic action of the main wheels increase the outriggers no longer bear weight. It is impossible to tell which outrigger is touching the ground until a turn is made if the air shocks are at the right pressure.With no more than three (3) wheels in contact with the ground at any one time, the PULSE is considered a three (3) wheeled vehicle & is licensed as a motorcycle. In certain states a special category of license has been created, such as in Michigan, appropriate for the PULSE, an "autocycle."The body styling of the PULSE gives it a fantastic futuristic look, at the same time following form with function. The aerodynamic shape allows the vehicle to cut through the wind and results in unusually high fuel mileage and performance. The PULSE has ten (10) times less drag than a motorcycle and its rider. The body is also designed in such a way as to increase stability and directional control as speed increases. The drag coefficient is .193Pulse #108 here for auction was taken apart and restored with a 1978 GL1000 Honda Goldwing Motorcycle as the power plant. The Honda Goldwing was updated with new electronic cdi, plug wires , plugs, fuel pump, belts, tires. Carburetor rebuilt, new cooling hoses. The cooling system has 2 radiators (NEW) located on the inside of the body and have cooling fans behind each radiator. This Pulse with the Honda Goldwing bike is designed to be taken apart from the main frame including radiators without having to drain the radiators when servicing. The wiring has all been updated and new. The front and rear have air shocks to adjust your ride. The gas tank is a 5 gallon tank. The original speedometer gauge works intermittently, The GPS does show your speed. It does have a Push button start. Aircraft steering wheel. The Fiberglass body had all the original paint sanded off and body imperfections repaired and then painted base/clear coat. The rear turn signals were replaced with 1959 cadillac tail lights. The front mirrors have the front turn signals integrated in them. The windshield and canopy glass is new polycarbonate. The interior is a custom upholstered leather with red piping and stitched Pulse logo in the headrest. The dash is custom made to accommodate a flip out 7 inch screen radio/gps/video/backup camera. The box behind the passenger is a Base for the Stereo. Can be easily removed if not desired. The shifter is a 50 cal. bullet which is located on the right side of the driver. Look at the pictures I have posted. This is my personal Pulse and have put much time into making this my own. This Pulse does not have the reverse gear. I do have the original reverse for this Pulse, but is not in the vehicle. The original reverse gear wore on the rear tire and I never liked the set up or the way it worked. The Pulse does have a windshield wiper, its just not installed . All lights work. The Pulse does have a way to tow it with a tow bar. Pulse 108 has the connection points on the front axel. I have never towed it, I have only trailered it. Pulse has always been stored indoors as long as I have owned it. Clear Michigan Title in my name. 2 previous owners. This Pulse is a one of kind. Selling by owner! I am sorry if this gets a little wordy, but most people have never heard of a Pulse and have never even seen one. I have been restoring this one for the past year and due to a family illness, we have decided to sell it. It is an amazing, very rare vehicle! This Pulse was completely disassembled for restoration and just needs a few panels bolted together, some minor mechanical adjustments and the interior reinstalled. All of the parts are here to complete. I have owned several of these Pulses and all sold for $18,000 to as high as $25,000 when I let them go. This one has the rare airplane type tail section and factor air conditioning as well as a watercooled engine. This Pulse should easily be valued at that or more. The Pulse is classified as an autocycle since it has 4 wheels. 347 were manufactured between the early 80's and 1990. Very few exist today in running condition. The early models were built using a yamaha 400 air cooled engine. The better units, like mine have a Honda 1100cc Goldwing water cooled engine. The Pulse was the brain child of world renowned air craft designer Jim Bede who built a BD5 jet airplane. He took that design and transformed it into an auto cycle. I purchased this Pulse from a buyer in Michigan which is where they were built. It was not running at the time but the body was near perfect. I brought it back to Alabama and delivered it to a professional collector car restorer for restoration. The Pulse was completely taken apart and the drivetrain was removed. We located a new drivetrain from a salvage dealer. The donor Goldwing is the same 1100cc watercooled engine as the original. It was a low mileage donor. My shop installed the new engine which is in good running order. We purchased a new choke cable but it has not been connected to the engine. You can manually pull the choke on the engine now and it cranks right up and runs outstanding. The Pulse has a foot operated clutch, brake and accelator, all of which are connected and work. Here are a few of the updates we made and what still needs to be completed. Completed: Fresh drivetrain - 1100cc Honda Goldwing I removed the carbs from the donor bike and purchased a set of custom, rebuilt performance carbs from a Honda carb expert in England ($700). We installed them. New paint - it needs to be wet sanded and possible additional clear coat/buff New canaopy slides Brand new racing type bucket seats (need to be installed) Note - I paid $11,000 for the Pulse in not running condition and have spend approx $7500 in mechanical and paint work. What it needs to be completed: The seat will need to be installed Interior panels are there, but need TLC. I recommend having someone make some new panels. Small cockpit, minimal expense to redo it! Choke cable needs connecting A/C will need to be reinstalled and charged Headlights and Taillights need installing and connecting. NOTE ON HEADLIGHT: The Pulse came from the factory with a pop up, Fiero type headlight which was unsightly and outdated. My resto shop professionally removed the pop up light an fiberglassed over the nose to keep the jet type look in place. We intended to upgrade the headlight to a small, LED type motorcycle light and mount 2 under the wings. Easy to do and cheap to purchase. Bolt approx 4 lightweight panels and tail section back on to complete body. All of the rest of the body and driveline components are done! Finally, please note that the body is near perfect. Never any damage and absolutely no rust in outriggers or any other steel part. Mine also has the original, perfect factory glass windshield. Many have been damaged and the owners only choice is to have a plastic one made. I will also include a very, very rare original factory set of Blue Prints for the Pulse as well as a great deal of factory manuals and other literature that I have collected over the years. This Pulse is $500 away from being ready for the highway and/or show. I promise you that you will never own another vehicle that will draw the attention that this Pulse will. It is spectacular and an absolute blast to drive and operate. I will be happy to show it in person by appointment. It has a clear title. You are welcome to call to inquire or ask other questions. Super Rare 1989 Pulse Autocycle Rocket Motorcycle  Only 347 made from 1985-1990.   Titled as a motorcycle.   12020 Actual Miles.  Built with Honda Gold Wing Water-Cooled 1100 Engine.   The tail fin and wing are not attached at this time but you will get them with this Pulse.  A little history on this Pulse Autocycle Motorcycle:   Date Built: June 1989    Original Color: White  Original Owner: Space Shuttle Inn - Titusville Florida    There are several pictures with the original paint and historical info showing it in use at the Space Shuttle Inn at Titusville Florida in the early 1990's.   It has been repainted with the Stars and Stripes combo.  Keep  the current color combination or paint it to suit yourself. A few scrapes on the custom paint, but one can live with them. Steering is accomplished with a standard size wheel with a red PULSE logo in the center. • Power Plant: OMCC used to offer a 1100/1200cc four cylinder horizontally opposed water cooled motorcycle engine that featured a five (5) speed manual transmission coupled with shaft drive, using lead free gasoline. The 5 speed transmission and reverse gear allows the pilot of the vehicle to be in full control, using a ratchet type gear shift lever located in the right side panel. • Running Gear: The suspension is basically comprised of air shock absorbers mounted on rear and specially designed spring-over front shocks. The front tire is a 13" automotive tire. The outrigger tires are smaller 8" trailer tires. Brakes are located on the main wheels and are hydraulic disc giving the PULSE exceptionally short braking distances. • Aerodynamics: The body styling of the PULSE gives it a fantastic futuristic look, at the same time following form with function. The aerodynamic shape allows the vehicle to cut through the wind and results in unusually high fuel mileage and performance. The PULSE has ten (10) times less drag than a motorcycle and its rider. The body is also designed in such a way as to increase stability and directional control as speed increases. The drag coefficient is .193 • Driving: All you need to know is how to drive a regular automobile with a manual transmission. Controls are quite conventional. The shift lever is mounted by your right hand. Floor pedals are for the clutch, brake and accelerator. The only driving aspect that differs from a car is that you drive with your body in the middle of the lane of traffic instead of to one side. • Operational Characteristics: The driver of the PULSE does not lean into a turn as with a motorcycle or aircraft, but instead to the outside of the turn as you would expect in an automobile. This is most easily demonstrated in a low speed turn. At high speeds, such as when changing lanes, the PULSE seems simply to move sideways with almost no tilt at all. • Mileage: The most outstanding performance characteristic is high fuel mileage. Owners report figures of 50-55 mpg when driving normal highway speeds. One customer claims 70 mpg using an oil additive to the gasoline. Test vehicles have achieved as high as 80 mpg under controlled conditions. • Safety: How safe is the PULSE? One clear answer is that the PULSE with two (2) roll-bars, front & rear, seat-belts & a steel inner frame construction over a much greater length than can be clearly shown in photographs, plus the outrigger wheels to prevent turnover of the vehicle at normal highway speeds, the PULSE is for certain the safest motorcycle on the road today. Crash-worthiness is probably comparable to that of a small car. On the plus side is the fact that the fiberglass body of the PULSE can absorb and dissipate energy. The roll bar can handle six (6) times the weight of the entire vehicle. With a carpeted (option) roll bar, you sit within the cockpit and pierce the landscape ahead. The size of the PULSE is difficult to imagine without seeing one. It is much larger than it appears in photographs. • Licensing: You are required to have a motorcycle endorsement, a written test, on your regular automotive license. Requirements can vary from state to state. The PULSE is licensed in 27 states, all major market areas. Helmets are not required due to the roll-bar, canopy (equal to the strength of a helmet), and seat belts. The PULSE was designed to comply with USA Federal Regulations Title 49, Part 571.3 as a motorcycle. The license plate area is designed for a motorcycle plate and is placed directly under the rear taillight. • Insurance: It is insured as a motorcycle. It is usually insured as an Antique Motor Vehicle. Rates vary from state to state. • Maintenance: In case of body damage, the parts were readily available through OMCC and/or a technician familiar with fiberglass repair procedures. All the parts are automotive and/or motorcycle, easily accessible through automotive part outlets. Low pacer lets both side wheels touch down making a rougher ride and a tendency to slightly skid the side wheels on cornering. To get to the battery, the rear part of the body and the gas tank have to be removed. Screws on canopy slides and body need to be checked occasionally for tightness. • Speed: The 1100-cc - 1200-cc engine with 85 plus horsepower adds to the quick acceleration and passing speeds. Without definite test data at this time, you could be assured of speeds in excess of 130 mph. Acceleration is brisk. 0-60 in 6.7 seconds.  • Features: Includes AM-FM radio/cassette, lighting, radar, custom upholstery, air conditioning, a windshield wiper and the PULSE provides a heater/defroster with fresh air vents and pop-up head light with dimmer. Customization abound with the Pulse Autocycle. Sound systems, lighting, colors, interiors add to a personal touch as with any vintage motor vehicle.

The cylinders have a tapered "V" appearance to highlight the V-twin design. Cylinder bore is 100mm. •High performance forged pistons offer great durability and reduced weight for faster engine response and less mechanical vibration. •Crankshaft features a single crank pin design. This specially designed crank and uneven firing order helps to enhance the pulse feeling and that unique V-twin engine character. •Single axis, left and right dual engine counter balancers reduce vibration to a minimum while maximizing rider comfort. •Crankcase design features internal oil and coolant lines for a clean, air-cooled engine appearance. There are special piston coolers that spray oil at the under side of the pistons. •Easy access, spin on type oil filter is located under the engine. There is no need to remove any parts to access the oil filter. •Classic side mounted air box houses a high-flow viscous paper-type filter and adds that special styling touch too. •Mikuni dual bore, 40mm throttle body fuel injection system with TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and ISC (Idle Speed Control). This is a "closed loop" system that utilizes an oxygen sensor in the exhaust. The sensor "sniffs" the spent exhaust gases and feeds back info to the ECU which in turn adjusts the fuel/air mixture for maximum power with minimum emissions. The oxygen sensor is located before the mufflers, so the use of slip-on mufflers will not affect this system. Each injector features 12 holes and a dual spray pattern for better fuel atomization and more complete combustion chamber filling. There is one injector per cylinder.
