Long before the café resurrection of the past few years, this custom built, one-off, BMW was winning awards and winning over crowds everywhere it went. Fred Zust, then manager of TouringSport, a premier motorcycle dealership in Greenville, SC acquired the bike as a trade-in. The bike was initially a bike that he did not want to take as a trade but eventually warmed up to an idea that it would make a café –racer. There are numerous changes to this bike, they easily go unnoticed without having reference. Once you start to add up all of these significant changes you will see why the bike received a “Best Engineered” award at the Airheads Invitational at the Barber Motorsports Park and “Best of Show” for Cycle Worlds's Rolling Concours at the Honda Hoot. The tired power-plant of the 1978 R100S was transformed by then technician Barry Crowe. The high performance mill received dual plug heads, high compression pistons, lightened flywheel and an updated electronic ignition took the place of the old points and condenser. The engine was then repositioned in the frame, approximately two inches higher and farther forward for better weight distribution and greater cornering clearance. These changes made the oil filter inaccessible so to make maintenance easier, the right downtube was lugged to make it removable. Barry Crowe fabricated a billet aluminum spacer take the place of the additional space created by the move.Additional tubular frame braces tie the steering head to the swingarm pivot. With the addition of the braces the fuel tank required trimming and the tank follows the line of the new braces. Ed Johnson handled the tank modification as well as the the one-off, signed brake fluid reservoir. A frame mounted headlight sourced from an RS compliments the clip-ons. The headlight housing was modified to accept a Drag Specialties tach. The upper aluminum triple clamp was originally a lower triple clamp, where is was turned upside down and took the place of stock flat steel part used to reside. A set of Race Tech cartridge emulators and a CC Products brace improve the performance of the stock fork. A Shendig steering damper helps minimize the headshake. Rounding out the suspension the factory snowflake wheels have been upgraded to dual discs up front and single disk out rear. The wheels have been powdercoated along with the frame.A set of Dunstall replica pipes make this bike sound phenomenal. A custom seat, stitched by local Greenville company Bucket Stitch, compliment the composite Knoscher replica seat with LED taillight. While this spotless example of engineering ingenuity is beautiful enough to put on a pedest

1978 BMW R100S with close to 35k milesthis a great bike that would make a nice addition for any collector, or a great daily driver or sport touring motorcycle. I just recently took it on a 600 mile trio through several state parks in southern Utah and he handled like a champ. plenty of power. I have had several other BMW airheads and this one is by far the smoothest and fastest. the speedometer stopped working when i purchased it and the previous owner said it was close to 32k miles I have replaced the original speedometer from one off a R100rt and everything works except the back light. it might just need a bulb.there are a few minor scratches on the lower right hand side of the motorcycle tank and some light cracks on the top of the fairing from being over tightened by the previous owner.the bike has custom mufflers that have been tuned beautifully and have a nice mean sound without being too loud, and they don't backfire!brand new AGM style battery that has tons of cca for turning the 1000cc engine over comes with factory tire pump that is located under the seat both hard bags and brackets the original seat has been upholstered in a nice black fabric and has 2 hidden storage compartments. tires are good brakes are good oil was just changed

ONLY 400 miles on this extremely well preserved 1979 XS Eleven in Indigo Blue. It is all stock as it came from "Anaheim Motorcycles" in 1978 as a 1979 1100F model. The bike was first purchased in the fall of 1978 but it was only registered for 3 years up to 1981. I have the registration records 1978-1981 and the license plate sticker shows 1981 as well. As of last year the bike is registered in CA and has a clean title. When I bought the bike it had the original tires still in new condition. I decided to replace them with the OEM Bridgstone brand to stay as authentic as possible for safety reasons only. I still have the original tires and inner tubes which amazingly look new and are soft to the touch. The carburetors were professionally cleaned and refurbished using only new old stock (NOS) parts. The engine runs as it should considering it's basically a brand new machine. The exhaust system is in excellent condition, and sounds beautiful. The engine purrs at cruising speeds, but when you give it some gas it growls and accelerates with no hesitation. All bolts and nuts are like new. The new battery fires up the bike instantly and it idles perfectly. The XS11 has a stock 95 HP engine which makes it as fast as a modern motorcycle. The "Eleven" in the name not only stands for the displacement but also the quarter mile time (which is sub 12 seconds) achieved easily. Original owner's manual, toolkit, and emergency kick starter are also included. Asking 8,900 For fun you might want to search Youtube for the 1978 Castrol Production Bike Race at Amaroo Park where the XS1100 beat the rival 6 cylinder Honda CBX1000 and Suzuki GS1100, Ducati 900SS, and BMW R100S while no Kawasaki KZ1000 models were present the new Z1R made its debut.
