1978 Suzuki Gs 1000, Up for sale is a first year Suzuki GS1000e with only 25k miles. The paint scheme with period correct Yoshimura and Bel-ray decals mimics the 1978-79 AMA Superbike champion ridden by the great Wes Cooley. This is not to be confused with the 1979-80 GS1000s, which is often incorrectly referred to as the "Wes Cooley Special". The paint scheme on the "S" is quite different than the Cooley race bike. Most of the 1978 GS1000s that were sold in the US were black with the white stripe and affectionately referred to as "skunks". When the GS1000e debuted at the Paris Motorcycle show in 1977 is wore red livery (4th pic) so red seemed a natural on the respray. The GS1000 was based around the already successful GS750, the lightest and fastest 750 of the period. The GS1000 was only slightly heavier than the GS750. The engine was a modified GS750, and as a 997cc actually lighter than the 750 due to weight shaving modifications. The 90 hp GS1000 was white simply the fastest and best handling liter superbike of the era. This lovely example had been put up properly for many years. The good news was that it had been mechanically well maintained and had its original pipes which are in remarkable shape. Most pipes on these 70s superbikes were either tossed for a high performance header or they succumbed to rust after a few years. These originals look and sound really great. The reconditioning includes: - carbs professionally cleaned, rejetted, and synched. - Dyna coils added. - all new cables - valve adjustment - all new fluids at proper levels - upgraded suspension, fore and aft - brakes rebuilt with new pads - new battery - new seat cover and foam - newer tires - All electrics tested and sorted and dielectric added to connectors. - Superbike bars. This sweet classic is turnkey and ready for the riding season. Clear blue Texas title in my name and in hand. Current antique tags good until 2018. $3,350.00
