This is the bike, PROJECT BIKE that it may be, that changed to world of motorcycling as most people know it today. Say what? It's true. When BMW introduced the R1100RS in late 1993 on the Island of Lanzarote in the canary Islands to the press and dealers from around the world and then in early 1994 to the buying public as a 1994 model year they had accomplished what all the naysayers said could not be done.
This one is/was officially one of our DEMO bikes here at Bob's BMW. With just 1,216 gentle miles it is ready for a new home and owner as well as time and thought given to what extras will make that person enjoy this fabulous machine even more. It was placed into service by our sales department at the very end of December 2015 and has factory warranty coverage through June 1, 2019 which is a longer term than a standard bike as it was an official DEMO, but the 36,000 mile limit of the original 3/36 BMW warranty remains in place.
This is a shop favorite machine (sort of like a favorite wine at your local beer and wine shop) and one that Bob personally thinks is one of the true investment sleepers from the 1980's in terms of future value for collectors. He has one that he shares every day when customers visit the dealership. It's hanging from the ceiling with the tires carefully balanced on one of the built in shelves near the main entrance so one can get a full undistorted view of the great lines and styling that the designers at BMW put into this small but highly capable 650 cc sport bike.
Wow, talk about a hot bike and reluctant seller! This was Bob's personal bike. We fully anticipated he'd be riding this one for quite some time on special days, using it as his daily and very sporty commuter, etc. after he spent considerable time crafting his vision with a bunch of staff input.There's a very impressive list of changes and additions to make this R9T sportier than most. He was also careful to not spend insane levels of money (something the staff was more than happy to help him do) while also doing a few things that no one else had done at the time – there have been a few partial copies constructed for our local clients since, but only a few.
We still don't get enough of these sweet bikes to satisfy the regular demand and the K1200R is a machine that we believe will continue to be desirable for years to come simply because it is so much fun to ride. Heck it can be both a street bike and a track bike and loaded up with luggage a very capable sport tourer. There's a top management guy at BMW who has a really tricked out example he regularly uses on the track.So get your imagination going and get in here to check it out; based on the few past offerings it will not be here long.According to the history on this specific bike this bike has had just one owner. It first came into Bob's in 2014 when he moved into the area and the bike had just 16,500 miles. It was due for lots of scheduled maintenance plus an few outstanding recalls plus it was in need of a fresher battery and new tires.
This gently used R12RT is a prime example of one of our most sought after pre-owned machines. Like many of our clients this person, the original and only owner, traveled past other dealers in the region to call Bob's BMW "their local dealer". This exceptionally nice 2005 R1150RT represents the final year that BMW built one of their finest and most popular sport/sport touring motorcycles. In 2005 both the R1150RT and the R1200RT were available which made for some very interesting decision making by many customers. Bob's invested equally in the R1150 as we did with the R1200 to have over 20 new R1150RT's in stock when the R12RT was on the floor all while other dealers thought they were done forever.While there is no question a decade later the R1200RT is the bike with more of everything, at the time when both were side by side in the Bob's BMW showroom a great number of people rode both and purchased the R1150RT. It was fun to watch and participate in. And that may explain why we still have great demand for every R1150RT we get in, especially in this kind of condition.
2013 marked the 90th anniversary of the BMW "boxer" opposed twin motor. To commemorate this; BMW released a limited number of special editions in the RT, R, and GSA models. Along with being fully loaded from the factory, these models wore a beautiful Sapphire Black Metallic paired with matte black/gold accents, graphite engine, drivetrain, and frame, and an exclusive brass emblem on the fork bridge. This 90th anniversary R1200RT was purchased here and owned by one of our own; so it's safe to say we know this bike well! In his time with the machine he added the stylish 28l top case, knee pads, side case scuff buffers, sidestand foot, cylinder guards, saddlebag reflectors, and a brake pedal extension. As noted before this was a fully loaded model which included ESA II, heated grips and seats, bluetooth, cruise control, ASC, and much more!
This beautiful BMW will not be the right machine for every 1955 to 1969 BMW twins fan. Some readers might think this is an unusual way to start an offer out. They may or may not be right. One of our goals here at Bob's has to always make a great effort at matching the right person to the right bike. We think it's especially important when it's a vintage or classic example as each one is different in ways that ten brand new BMW examples of the same model will not be.

They don't arrive in nicer overall condition with a complete back story and total history as often we we'd like. While Bob's did not sell this bike when brand new, we did take it in trade some years back from the original owner, do a full servicing to it as is standard here at Bob's BMW in the Mid-Atlantic region and find the next great home and owner for it. Now it's back at Bob's having been traded in towards a brand new R1200RT and this one could be your dream RT. That transaction took place back in 2012 when the bike had barely 6,000 miles. Today after regular service and several enjoyable adventures (solo and two up) it has still what is considered low miles at just under 30,000 and like before we've just completed a full service completing the Inspection 2 plus what is classified as a 24/30K service. It arrived with nearly new tires that were installed while the oil and filter were changed at 28,811 miles in October of 2016 here at Bob's so they have just over 1,000 miles and are in perfect condition.
