This 1978 Yamaha SR 500 classic has recently been found in storage with less than 3350 miles. Upgraded and made to run like new with a Mikuni VM type carb and stainless steel exhaust. Never off road. Very clean.
1978, everything works. runs well, 11,000 miles. Easy restoration or daily rider. These have some collector status and replacements are abundant.I took this bike on a trade knowing nothing about them. It is kick-only, there-in lies the problem. With my feet and knees being what they are, I simply cannot get it started consistently, thereby making it of no use as a daily rider to me. Was recently serviced, oil change etc. Runs very well and everything works. Want to trade for another UJM daily-rider machine that will make it through DMV with no issues. I have a Clymer manual and title in hand for the SR. What do you have??

Selling my 2015 Yamaha SR400 "Retro" bike. This is actually a 1978 motorcycle. It has only had one update since 1978 and that was to fuel injection. Just like all bikes in 1978 it has chrome steel fenders, large chrome headlight, large chrome gauges and a passenger bar behind the saddle just like the old BSA 440 Victors. You'll feel like it transported you back to 1978 when you ride this bike. It really brings back memories. This is also a "kick-start-only" bike. Of course it has a compression release lever to help you get it started as single-cylinder bikes do kick hard without one. This bike is basically brand new. I bought it in October 2016 from a dealer, it is now March 2017 and I rode it twice. I bought a warranty and it still is covered under that. Up for grabs is the rare Yamaha SR 500. This one is actually in pretty good shape considering some that I have found and restored before. It is very lively and loud as you can hear in the YouTube video. But I had to get the existing exhaust off of it because it was nasty. I have a new hooligan muffler from Dime City already on the way. As well as a new front brake master cylinder (Hughs Handbuilt HHB Slimline), Biltwell Recoil grips and a few other incidentals. I would really like to do a full resto on this one starting with a Tuffside seat. And new paint. But I have a few other projects I have to finish. These are great bikes though. This would have been my third SR500 but now it can be yours. Tends to start on the first kick every time. Previous owner took great care of it. I can include the front and rear stock fenders and some other nice incidentals. It's currently running off of a battery but you can do a capacitor changeover pretty easily. Parts are still abundant as these are extremely popular in the custom crowd. This is a great little bike. Yamaha took the original SR from the early 80s, and updated it. It's got Fuel Injection so it's super reliable and smooth. It has a kick start only ( no electric start ), but it's really easy to kick. Talk about nostalgia! Single cylinder, 4 stroke. engine was broken in according to the manual. oil changes done according to manual also. only issue is a little rust on the chain. I regularly clean and lube it, but forgot it in the rain one time. A dealer looked at it and said it's not really an issue. It consistently gets 50mpg, only need to put 87 in, so it's really cheap to operate. I've got a couple quarts of oil and an oil filter I'll throw in. ( doesn't come with RAM phone mount ) Never dropped it. Cash only, clean title. If you want to test ride it, bring cash and your motorcycle license.
