1978 Yamaha YZ400E in excellent condition. I got this bike ready for vintage MX with a complete teardown and rebuild. Bike starts right up & runs great. Mechanically this bike is ready to go, just needs some cosmetics. I have a new OEM copy front fender for it that goes with the bike. I have the following new parts and have done the following service: - New clutch plates, clutch springs, & actuation ball - New clutch arm bearing - New clutch pressure plate bolts - New intake manifold - New throttle, clutch, & brake cables - New fork seals & fluid - New swingarm bearings - New clutch & brake levers - New front & rear wheel bearings - New JT 14T steel countershaft & JT 48T alloy rear sprockets - New chain - New chain sliders - New chain roller - New clutch & ignition cover gaskets - New countershaft, shifter, clutch arm, & kickstart seals - New shifter rubber - New Uni Air Filter cage - New No Toil air filter - New rim strips - New front & rear inner tubes - New Dunlop Geomax MX51 front tire - Near new Dunlop Geomax MX51 rear tire - New fork boots - New front brake cable guides - New fuel lines & filter - New breather tubes I have rebuilt both front & rear brake assemblies, greased & lubed all pivots and assemblies that require it. Installed a new EBC clutch kit & springs and replaced all seals so this motor doesn't leak at all. I put on a new intake manifold ($110 alone), and installed boyesen reeds too. Replaced the throttle tube with a near new good one, & everything works as it should. All it needs is cosmetics which are a new tank & side panel stickers, a new rear fender, and a new seat cover. I was going to use this bike as my personal vintage racer, but have decided to go Euro and restore my old Maico & Montesa. I've probably forgot some of the other things I've done but it's all gone through. I can help with delivery within 50 miles for a fee. Price is very fair for what's been done, and it is OBO because it needs to go as I really don't want to store it outdoors during the winter. Lots of good things about this vintage monster. Starts pretty easy, newer top end with tons of compression. I was told the clutch is newer as well. Goes through the gears. Tons of power. It is complete except one side number plate. New rear tire. No leaks that I can find. Overall fair condition considering the year. It would be great to ride as is or possible a great project to tear down and make it a collectible. I recently purchased this bike and it is just more than I need. Now for the bad. The worst thing I have seen on it would be the shifter is welded on the shift shaft. I cannot tell if the shaft was rounded out or the shifter. I would like to think it is the shifter that's worn but I can only guess. I did see a very small hole in the swingarm as pictured. The expansion chamber has had some repairs done. I have the kickstand but it is broken off and need welded back on. Motor runs strong no broken fins or repairs that I can see brakes both work clutch feels good frame looks solid plastics are stained scratched but not broken or cracked. swingarm has a very small hole in one side carb has broken piece where the bowl meets. (does not leak) suspension seems a little stiff in the rear and bouncy in the front both front and rear wheels seem to have flat spots, spokes all seem tight new rear tire 95% or better front tire is 60% If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. 724-797-5300 Alan This will be a bill of sale, I do not think they had titles in 1977 but I could be wrong. This is a first year Yamaha YZ400F(K1). I purchased it from the original owner in 2003 and I have always washed it after each ride and stored it indoors. This bike is sure to be a valuable collectors item someday. It is in perfect running condition with no leaks, no smoke, no noises, and no other problems. It has given me 12 years of faithful service without ever letting me down. The hour meter (second to last picture) indicates original engine hours from new at just over 106 hours. I have earned factory certification from Yamaha (as well as Honda, Suzuki, and Kawasaki) and have worked as both a technician and a service manager at a Yamaha dealership. I have performed every bit of maintenance and repair on this bike and have cared for it with only the best quality parts and workmanship. You may notice some aftermarket parts, such as the Applied top triple clamp and ProTaper handlebars, Ceet brand tall seat (Foam+cover), custom mounted OEM tachometer/hour meter, Clarke brand fuel tank (black plastic), as well as the custom exhaust mounted flag mount, and custom Yamaha blue painted valve cover. The less obvious parts include OEM heavy .46 kg/mm fork springs and OEM three position (on-off-reserve) WR400F fuel valve. I'm including many original parts which have been removed to fit the aftermarket parts including the stock triple clamp, seat foam and cover, the original gray painted valve cover, and the original fuel valve. Also included are the original items which came with each brand-new YZ400F; the complete factory service manual, the spoke wrench, and the triangle stand. I have the CLEAR state of California title in hand. The bike is currently California green-sticker registered until June of 2016. This bike is as good as it looks.
