1982 Yamaha XZ550 Vision, The XZ550 was the first Yamaha model to feature automotive-style downdraft carburetors with the air cleaner box mounted atop the carburetors, as opposed to most motorcycles' sidedraft carburetors with their side-mounted air cleaners.The XZ550 has a water-cooled engine.Here are some notes that I found about it,--The Yamaha Vision was originally conceived in the late 1970s when motorcycling was at its peak, and spent three years in development, being overseen by a small group of designers and enthusiasts rather than "committee think". Several high profile external design houses contributed to the design of the XZ550 including GK Design Associates for design, and reputedly Cosworth for the engine and Porsche for the final drive. The initial models were designed to be a performance bike and GK's goal was "to make it into the most advanced super sport bike in terms of both styling and riding performance" The XZ550 succeeded on both fronts, its comfort on long rides and veritable torque-monster engine matched by its distinctive deep V-Twin exhaust beat and neck-snapping performance. Two for one, these '83s are rare and were the result of three years of design. 70 degree vee-twin, with 36mm downdraft Mikuni carbs, and a 10k red line, Yamaha was ahead of the curve. 200 lb dry weight, five speed, mono shock w/dual adj.. Transverse hung water cooled engine, four valves dual plugs and exhaust per cycilinder. Shaft drive, cast wheels and a 4.5 gallon fuel cell. Fun little peaky bikes with nice touring amenities and great gas mileage. The parts bike was running on one cylinder last year, and I have title s for both, as well as the rack & books. For Sale, 1982 Yamaha XZ550 Vision. Yamaha's first production sport bike. A collaboration of Yamaha, Cosworth, Porsche, and GK Design Studios. 64 horsepower, 462lbs. Light, nimble and powerful. A great canyon carver or comfortable commuter. Just completed mechanical restoration. I decided not to do a full blow apart, rebuild and restore on this one to keep the price down and make it available to the budget minded or entry level motorcycle enthusiast. The new owner can polish it, detail it, cafe it, customize it, or just ride it as is. Super low miles, new rear tire, rebuilt carburetors, all electricals (starting, charging, lights, signals, horn) work as they should, fully serviced and ready to ride. It is out of the DMV system so registration should be around $100. Up for sale, is one of two 1982 Yamaha XZ550RJ Visions that I own. Date code on front label: 12/81 For its time, this was one advanced motorcycle, designed and engineered by Cosworth and taking 3 years of research and development to bring it to market. It has a large bore Liquid cooled V-Twin engine, 80mm bore and a short 55mm stroke, making it a high revving (10k RPM) engine with 4 valves per cylinder, and two exhaust ports on each head. It is also shaft drive, yet does not exhibit any shaft jacking like some shaft drive bikes do. The bike sports a fork-mounted sport fairing, rare and desirable, on its trailing-axle front forks. The rims are 1.85 - 18" front and 2.15 - 18" rear, sporting a pair of Bridgestone BT45 Battleaxe sport tires, a 90/90-18 front and a 130/80-18 rear. It also has a hooligan MAC 2-into-2 exit on the right side exhaust that really gives a bark when you rev it to the 10k RPM red-line. The rear shock has been upgraded to this millennia, with the addition of a 2004 Triumph TT600 rear mono shock, fully adjustable for damping, rebound, and preload (see picture). I also upgraded the voltage rectifier/regulator to a MOSFET Shindegen from a CBR1000RR, so it has modern electronics also, and installed a heatsink on the stator cover to dissipate unwanted heat from the alternator! These two mods help the stator live a longer life! This bike really handles well, and is ready to take to the race track for your track day pleasure, or perhaps a vintage race bike conversion. Or just a fun back road burner for the sport tourer! I took my race school on my other 1982 Vision, and it will really roll some rubber up on the tires, check out the front tire picture! It has one tiny tear in the front part of the seat (see picture), but is still in good shape. This bike is an original paint survivor, and is delicious in the Brilliant Red Yamaha paint. There is some paint chips, and small rust spots on the frame, but very nice otherwise.I purchased a black one back in 1982, brand new, and have been kicking myself for getting rid of it since 1985. It would pull 11k RPM in top gear! Now I have two, and one has to go, no room in the garage! For any shipping YOU are responsible for picking up the bike or arranging the shipping of the bike.
