Perfect '57 frame , all tabs and threads, stamped J6 (Oct 1956). Matching belly number cases , maybe 100 miles on complete rebuild. Gas tanks and rear fender are original to frame. The rest is a combination of real Panhead parts and quality aftermarket replacement parts. The front fender is later model but I have a real fender that I never got around to painting and putting on.I also have a really nice original kicker cover that goes with the bike. It hasn't been ridden in a while and the paint has a couple small chips. Some of the older parts look older , it looks perfect in the pics , but it still has room for improvement. It runs and rides great. The speedometer is actually a '54 only with NOS '57 glass, I didn't want to paint it to look like the correct one. I don't mess with the old bikes much anymore so it needs a new home , but I will miss looking at it .I got this as a basket case , frame , engine(cases split) , back fender , tanks ,wheels ,bunch of other parts. Most of the bolts are Colony kits , I did most of the Parkerizing. It took me 2 years and a stack of books to get it to this point , it's as correct as I could get it , wire clips , routing , I even got some antique friction tape to tape the wire loom to the frame. This bike starts easy , runs strong , the oil pressure sensor stops working when it warms up but it's the original, hard to find and I didn't want a new one on it , I've looked in the oil tank and this bike is pumping plenty of oil . All original looking, with rocker foot clutch and side police ratchet shifter. Totally disassembled the entire bike and replaced or rebuilt everything in 2008. Engine is original '51 panhead overhauled by one of Omaha's best pan mechanics, with hydra cam. Original '51 4 speed totally overhauled. Bored 10,000 over, that's it. This runs like you wouldn't believe, even throws a flame between shifts - VERY COOL! Lovingly restored, and kept on permanent display, this lust-worthy UL hasn't logged any miles since the last wrench was turned on its NOS Harley hardware. A mirror-like coat of black paint serves as the foundation for era-correct scallops that are detailed with red pin striping. At the front of that pigment, the dark vibes start with an NOS Harley fender, which parades NOS Harley trim and an NOS Harley light in front of a correct fuel tank. Simple and classically shaped, that attractive tank, equipped with a factory dash, breaks perfectly in to an NOS buddy seat that's propped on NOS buddy springs. That saddle hangs over a second NOS Harley fender that centers an NOS tombstone taillight behind an NOS Harley bumper. CHASSIS By the late '40s Harley had successfully recovered from the Great Depression and kick started civilian production on the coat tails of World War II. The 1948 model year would be the last to use the Springer fork, but little else changed when it came to the bike's foundation. And, naturally, this UL has been fully rebuilt to era-correct status all the way down to its NOS shock absorber. That stiff suspension is great at ensuring the rider gets an authentic feel for the road. There's an NOS Harley electrical system that works well with an NOS Harley accessory carb choke. DRIVETRAIN After almost two decades of manufacture, Harley had tweaked their flathead engines into well-tuned running gear. That said; 1948 would be the last year of the Big Twin UL, as it and the brand's wildly popular 'Knucklehead' were replaced by an upgraded V-Twin that would eventually earn the nickname 'Panhead'. That means this bike's original, 74 cubic inch flathead was an interesting rarity even in its heyday. Naturally, that VIN-matched powerplant is outfitted with an array of NOS components, including aluminum motor heads and old school primary covers. Electricity still takes the shape of a 6-volt system, which is augmented with a vintage-look gel cell battery. And behind that zero-mile motor, a correct Harley 4-speed processes commands from an NOS Beck gearshift knob. Bike is in immaculate and showroom condition with only 4,463 original miles; Has never gone down and starts the first time every time! It has no dents and the paint is in excellent condition (make sure you question any damage you see on other bikes you're looking at such as on the tank, pipes, and wheels because chances are the bike has gone down). This black beauty has always been garaged and has never seen rain or snow. Bike has original exhaust system & factory pipes (important fact to know and rare feature since most throw on the Vance & Hines pipes without knowing how it may affect their bike's performance. And if the exhaust was modified, how are you to know if it was done right and by who?) Personally I think the factory pipes on this model purr just fine and are still some of the best and sexiest looking pipes today and what I always got the most compliments on at red lights. If you do choose to modify the exhaust then at least you have the comfort of knowing you're the first. Moving back, you’ll find a beach-style handlebar, wide floorboards, detachable passenger pillion, crossover exhaust and tombstone taillight. A metal strip with emblem around the tank and a classic patent badge on the oil tank hold the eyes captive. But roll the throttle to the Twin Cam 88B™ engine and suddenly your eyes and the rest of you are set totally free. You need not be a traditionalist to smile about that. OVERVIEW The FLSTSC/I Springer Classic slides a fat front tire and clean FL fender between a Springer front end in black powdercoat with a chrome shock and springs. It's a tough, retro look that's pure Panhead, enhanced by the front- fender running light, a stamped aluminum tank graphic and wrap-around trim strip, as well as a vintage-style patent label on the oil tank. The crossover chrome dual exhaust system hangs long and low on each side of the rear wheel. The seat features embossed nameplates and a separate passenger pillion that can be removed easily. There is plenty of style, but loads of function, too. The Springer front suspension is engineered to deliver an outstanding ride and precise handling. A Silver Slotted Cast Aluminum disc rear wheel is new.
