1978 Honda Gold Wing, 55000 miles, Exterior: Black, VIN: GL14004843, This Goldwing is an ORIGINAL gl1000. Original paint, Original exhaust, everything except the seat, and its a new old stock right down to the gold lettering on the back of the seat. Still have the factory seat that came on it but it is torn in a seam. This bike has always been treated very gently as the photos show. It runs just like it did in 1978. As you know this bike has a carburetor not fuel injected, therefore it is cold natured on cold starts, once warmed up she purrs like a kitten. I bought the bike in Miami Florida. It ran and started great, but I went ahead and changed the pet cock valve on the gas tank, the fuel lines, fuel filter and the fuel pump, so as not to have any fuel delivery problems. I have ridden the bike for a year and a half and not touched anything else except added a new set of Avon tires. The harder you run it the better it runs, just like it was in 1978. This bike looks good even underneath the exhaust and under the fenders. Play close attention to the photographs. The condition is in the details. When you see how good this original black paint is you realize the treatment this wing has had for the last 38 years. Still has the original owners manual in perfect condition along with the factory tool pouch and tools. Appears that they have never been used. I am moving so I am selling all my bikes except one. The story on this wing is, it was bought by a fireman in Coral Gables Florida, who owned it for 21 years. He came to the same dealership where he bought in Coral Gables and traded it in on a new Goldwing. A customer was standing there and bought it on the spot. He owned it for 14 years and sold it to a friend because he was moving out of the country. I bought it from the friend. There are many 1978 Goldwings on the market for sale but you will look long and hard to find one that is in this condition that has not been restored. They are only original one time. Thats what makes this one special. I hope to sell to a new owner who will continue the gentle treatment it is used to. 1978 Honda GL1000 Goldwing. The early 'Wings were sold as 'standard' motorcycles, and were often outfitted with aftermarket bags and fairings. This bike is what is referred to as a 'naked Goldwing', sans fairings and bags, and looking much more muscular with the 4 cylinder boxer engine prominently sticking out both sides of the bike. This bike is not light, but the weight is down low, so it is very manageable and it handles quite well. The 1000cc engine is quite capable of pulling the weight, and it is a very fun machine. Shaft drive makes it low maintenance. Change the oil and adjust the points once a year and she'll run a long time. It is a conversation starter, as you just don't see them around, and it is very distinctive. I bought this one as a basket case in 2001. I went completely through it as I put it back together replacing and refurbishing parts as necessary. I put about 15,000 miles on it as my primary transportation in college, but it got parked after I graduated and started a family. Last summer, I got it out to sell it, but once I got it running, the riding bug bit me again and I put about 2000 miles on it before buying another bike. At this point, I don't need 2 street bikes, so it's time for the GL to find a new home. Before I started riding the bike, I again went totally through it to make sure it was safe and did the following work in July '15: -Replaced timing belts and idlers -Replaced tires and tubes -Replaced battery -Rebuilt carbs with Randakk kit, and synchronized -Adjusted points -Replaced front brake lines with braided stainless -Rebuilt both master cylinders and all 3 calipers -Replaced brake pads -Installed LED driving lights with modulator from Skene designs, as well as Skene P3 auxiliary brake lights -Installed higher wattage headlight bulb -Installed new mirrors -Replaced leaking final drive with good used unit -Installed Hella Supertone horns -Replaced fan switch -Replaced Fuel Filter-Changed all Fluids -Adjusted valves This got her running better than she ever had while in my care, and I rode her everywhere. I would not be afraid to take this bike across the country tomorrow. I was so convinced I was going to keep it that I spent the money on a new Corbin 'gunfighter' seat ($453), which makes all day rides no problem. You will not find another 40 year old motorcycle that is as road ready, safe, and reliable as this one. I am also including two service manuals, and the fairing seen in a couple of the photos. Other features you will notice are the engine guards, saddlebags, and aftermarket exhaust. The exhaust is throaty without being loud. The tires are Shinko Tourmasters, which show almost no wear. I am asking $2500 for this old girl, but will consider reasonable offers. I'm ok with test rides, provided the potential buyer has the cash to buy the bike, and has a class M license or learner's permit.
