Up for auction is my beloved 2002 Ducati 998 Monoposto. I do not want to sell it but due to moving and starting a new job in another town, I am not thrilled about putting the bike away in storage for 1-2 years. With much regret I have decided it would be better off in a new home. I am the second owner. I bought it in May 2010 with about 17,600 miles on the clock. Now it has 21, 295 miles but I still ride it so this may increase slightly. Clear North Carolina title. No liens, not title issues. I have babied this bike and made some great improvements cosmetically and to the performance as detailed below. The bike has never been in the rain as long as I have owned it, and always stored in my garage. I am a 40 years old guy so the bike has never been wheelied or abused in any way. PAINT/COSMETICS Never been down or dropped. No rash or cracks in the fairings. Paint is in fantastic condition, glossy as you would expect. No major chips, etc other than typical nicks on the front leading edges of the fairing (from small road stones, etc). and small scratches consistent with road use. You will not find a used 998 in better condition unless it has been stored away and never used. I really have nothing else to say about the cosmetic condition because it is simply in great shape. ENGINE/EXHAUST/CLUTCH/TIRES The engine is stock, and starts and runs flawlessly. I have never had any issues with the engine performance or reliability. Does not burn oil, leak, or smoke, etc. Just keep this bike on a battery tender and she starts right up. Nothing more I can say. I just have not had issues whatsoever. It has the Termignoni exhaust along with the correct 996R performance chip that came with the Termignoni exhaust. With this exhaust (no restrictors) nothing sounds like this bike. It is loud, but makes a beautiful tone. At around 19,000 miles or so, I thought the original clutch plates and basket were getting a bit loud and worn, so I personally replaced the clutch. I installed a brand new Barnett clutch basket and brand new clutch plates. I also replaced the slave cylinder with a brand new OEM part, and installed new oil seals on the clutch push-rod. I also installed brand new stainless steel clutch plate springs and red caps. This clutch is now just awesome. No issues at all. She will last another 20,000 miles. At around 20,000 miles I replaced both tires with fresh rubber. Up front is a Dunlop Q2 (Qualifier 2) 120/70 ZR17. In back is the same tire in 190/50 ZR17. They are hardly broken in. MAINTENANCE/SERVICE As to maintenance, when I bought the bike at 17,600 miles, I had the 18,000 mile service performed by a certified Ducati Master Tech when I lived in PA. He checked/adjusted the valves, changed the belts, balanced the throttle bodies, and did everything else you would expect at that service. Bike checked out with flying colors. He even asked me to let him know if I was ever going to sell it. If that is not an sign you have a good bike, nothing is! I have have all records from this service. I inspect the belts every 6-12 months and they still look great. However, the bike will need belts. I was going to do them this winter but since I decided to sell, I figure the new owner will want to replace the belts themselves for peace of mind. I change the oil and filter myself every year because I don't put many miles on the bike year to year. I always use Castrol High Performance Synthetic 10W-40, and I always check the oil sump screen as well. No issues. The drive chain is in great shape. Does not need to be replaced at this time. I replaced the front and rear brake pads at about 18,000 miles. I also regularly bleed the brakes and clutch. No other issues with forks shocks, electrics, etc. ADDITIONS/IMPROVEMENTS The original owner had the white numberboard painted on the front nose fairing, with the correct silver pinstripe to match the tail. He also had the Ducati performance tail bracket installed along with clear lenses on the OEM turn signals. Also during the time that I have owned it, I installed the following: * Power Commander III USB with PC map for the Termignoni system. * Bitubo steering damper * Shorei Lithium Iron Battery * Motoelectric Hi Capacity Starter and Battery Wire Kit * Evoluzione low temperature fan switch (allows both fans to come on at 210 degrees instead of just one; better cooling than factory in traffic/heat) * Evoluzione side-stand bypass (allows you to start and warm up the bike with the sidestand down; factory set-up forces you to sit in bike with stand up) * Cycle Cat adjustable clip-ons (they are just the best thing you can put on these bikes. Still sporty but can be adjusted many ways) * Cycle Cat extended billet side-stand (a sturdier and slightly longer stand than stock; avoids the factory over-leaning, and flimsy stock stand) * Pipercross foam air filters. * Carbon fiber heel guards * Carbon fiber exhaust guard * Carbon fiber swing arm and chain cover * Carbon fiber air intake covers * Carbon fiber tachometer cover * Rubber tank guard (and rubber side/knee grips not shown but will come with bike) EXTRAS THAT WILL ALSO COME WITH THE BIKE I am also throwing in the Pitbull single sided swingarm stand that is pictured as well as the factory service manual for the bike (998's used the 998R engine so the manual for that bike it correct for the engine). BIDDING/SHIPPING AND PAYMENT Ok, now you know everything I know about the bike. There is nothing more I can really add but I will answer any of your questions via e-mail. You can see that I took care of it. I am pricing it accordingly, but fairly. Against my better judgment I am listing it as a fixed price or best offer. Please, please, DO NOT waste my time or yours with low ball offers, or ask me to trade something. I will listen to reasonable offers, but I would just as soon keep the bike than give it away. Also, don't try to beat me up on the mileage. I have been riding bikes and especially Ducatis for 20 years. Anybody who knows Ducatis will tell you that a well maintained example with some mileage is a much better bet than the one that has been sitting for 10 years with 2,000 miles on it. Ducatis like/need to be ridden. They do not do well sitting contrary to what some people may believe. I am selling this bike for cash only. I will accept certified funds, but they must clear and make it into my bank account before I release the bike. I will work with you on shipping by making myself available for pick up etc. OTHER DISCLAIMERS/PEOPLE WHO SHOULD NOT BID As a long-time motorcycle and Ducati enthusiast, some things I just can't abide by, so I am providing a list of things that disqualify you from ever buying this motorcycle from me. I don't care how much you offer. I won't sell it to you, ever for any reason if you fit any of these categories, so just don't bid: 1. You intend to re-paint this bike any color but the OEM red. 2. You think that colored led lights look cool on bikes 3. You intend to part this bike out (please never do this) 4. You like to do wheelies, stopies, or other nonsense. 5. You don't appreciate Ducatis, the 998 series, but just think "it might be cooler than my GSXR." 6. You don't think it is wrong to wear your shorts and sandals or "flip-flops" while riding. THANKS FOR VIEWING AND GOOD LUCK!

Beautiful 998. Full Arrow Exhaust (sounds awesome!), quick change rear sprocket. Bike has never been on its side for any reason. The only real blemish on the bike is a couple of nicks on the top fork nut as shown in pictures, it is also missing a couple of the quarter turn fairing retainers. Other than that this bike is in excellent condition, runs great and has been a pleasure to own. I hate to sell it but its time to move on. Belts were changed at 19,500 miles and fork seals replaced around the same time. Could use a new rear tire but ready to go other than that. Comes with 2-up (Bi-posto) tail section and passenger pegs the tail section needs a rider seat pad. It had a Corbin seat but I am using that on a project bike. Pit stands shown are Not included. The Bi-posto tail section is in addition to the Mono-posto tail shown on the bike. It comes with both.
