The dominance with which this machine has won one world championship title after another is certainly unrivaled... Since Tony Cairoli s first win in the 2010 MX1 World Championship, his first year as a KTM factory rider on the 350 SX-F, the Red Bull athlete from Sicily has dominated the class with five consecutive world championships at the top tier of motocross aboard this nimble, but powerful bike including many, many race wins. The bike itself comprises of almost as much power as a 450, but with the agility of a 250 so the basic idea is easily summarized, and has been a concept with success from the start. Features May Include: ENGINE The new DOHC (Double Overhead Camshaft) engine of the 350 SX-F features a completely new construction in order to make it even more compact and powerful than before. Fitted with the latest electronic fuel injection system and electric starter, it has a very wide usable speed range, high performance and incredibly efficient rideability. The new design made the engine 20 mm shorter than previously, while reducing the weight by 1 kg to only 27.2 kg. CYLINDER AND PISTON In the redesigned and shorter cylinder, with a bore of 88 mm, works a weight reduced forged bridged box-type piston made by CP. 2016 KTM Freeride 250 R, 2016 KTM Freeride 250 R The Lively One Features May Include: ENGINE To power the FREERIDE 250 R, the KTM design engineers took the two-stroke engine from the 250 EXC competition enduro and subjected it to comprehensive refinements, thereby reducing the weight of the already particularly lightweight power unit - in spite of electric starter - by a whole two kilograms and tuning it for optimal rideability. The engine on the FREERIDE 250 R is equipped with its own cylinder, featuring ducts and valve timing adapted to the desired torque curve, as well as a matching piston. Similarly to trials motorcycles, the elaborate exhaust control system of the 250 EXC has been omitted, which not only has a beneficial effect on the torque curve but also on the durability of the piston. That makes this engine even less complicated and even more robust. TRANSMISSION Compared with the 250 EXC, the 6-speed gearbox specially developed for the FREERIDE models has shorter transmission ratios, while the extended sixth gear is effectively designed as an overdrive. A short secondary gear ratio of 46 to 12 (FREERIDE 350 12/48) guarantees powerful traction and lively acceleration, especially in demanding terrain. CLUTCH Both the FREERIDE 250 R and the FREERIDE 350 are equipped with an undamped CCS (coil spring steel) clutch, featuring a wear-free steel cage and a clutch package tuned especially for the FREERIDES with seven steel carrier lining discs. Not least thanks to the special friction linings and softer springs, this clutch is characterised by optimized disengagement, while the hydraulic clutch armature from Formula ensures that the clutch is always easily and precisely controlled. BATTERY The Freeride 250 R is the first KTM motorcycle to be equipped as standard with a lithium-ion starter battery. This innovative technology not only saves one kilo of weight, it impresses above all with significantly greater efficiency, thereby ensuring higher efficiency of the electric starter system - in other words: the battery doesn't give up the ghost, even when started frequently. WHEELS AND TYRES The FREERIDE 250 R rolls on extremely light, spoked wheels with anodized, light-alloy rims from GIANT, CNC-machined hubs and light-alloy spoke nipples. The Trial-Maxx tyres derived from the world of trial sport, in sizes 2.75-21 and 4.00-18, have been specially developed by Maxxis for the KTM FREERIDES. Fuel Tank All models in the SX range are equipped with a 7.5 litre, lightweight polyethylene fuel tank. The fuel pump system used on the 4-stroke motocross models is the same as that used on the 4-stroke enduro models, thereby allowing optional fitting of larger tanks from the PowerParts range or from the enduro models. Handlebar All SX models are equipped with the extremely sturdy, tapered Renthal Fatbar 827 handlebar that features an offset specially designed to meet the demands of motocross. In accordance with the proven KTM standard, the handlebar can be fixed in a choice of four positions. For MY 2015, it is equipped with softer two-component grips to spare the rider's hands. Frame The modern frame design of the SX models, comprising lightweight, high strength, chrome-molybdenum steel section tubes, combines maximum longitudinal stiffness with optimum torsional stiffness. A forged and milled cross-tube connects the two frame halves with the connecting rod of the linkage on the new SX frame for 2015. The state-of-the-art engine is activated effortlessly with an electric starter and has been regarded for years as the most successful two-stroke power unit on the market. Best-in-class, enduro-specific performance, a redesigned reed valve housing, the perfectly designed six-speed transmission and the further refined DDS clutch send the engine to the very top of its class. Featres May Include: OPTIMIZED ENGINE The engine has a redesigned reed valve housing featuring Boyesen high-performance reeds. Thanks to the innovations, performance has been optimized and responsiveness improved. Ignition curve and cylinder head have been optimized and the carburetor setting adjusted. The new developments make the 250 XC even more rideable. CYLINDER HEAD A new cylinder head with optimized combustion chamber makes its debut in MY 2014, delivering more effective combustion and above all better responsiveness in the partial load range. This results in better power development and optimized rideability SUPERIOR SUSPENSION SETTINGS For 2014, all XC models are fitted with a newly developed 48mm 4CS Closed Cartridge fork featuring the patented 4-Chamber-System. The sophisticated design provides very constant and sensitive damping characteristics and an adjustable end progression. The new hand click adjuster system is now accessible on top of the fork, rebound on the right hand side, compression on the left. The fork is fitted with improved seal rings made by SKF and high performance fork oil (SAE 4). Compared to the predecessor, the new 4CS fork is lighter, easier to maintain and has been completely valved to match the shock for XC racing. SWINGARM The cast aluminum swingarm has been developed with state-of-the-art calculation and simulation software and constructed, in terms of design and wall thickness, for minimum weight with optimum stiffness and precisely defined flexibility. For the 2014 model year, our engineers have revised the chainguide for the benefit of higher functional reliability, while simultaneously reducing the weight. FRAME The state-of-the-art frame design made of lightweight, high-strength chromoly steel sections combines maximum longitudinal stiffness with optimum torsional rigidity. It guarantees easy handling and precise cornering, but also outstanding stability. TRIPLE CLAMPS The lower triple clamp has been modified for optimum attachment of the new front fender.
