Features May Include: Testastretta 11° DS The new Monster 1200 family is powered by the second generation of Testastretta 11° DS engine, smoother and with dual spark plugs and a secondary air system. Dual Spark (DS) ignition uses two plugs per cylinder to ensure complete combustion in a very short time. A secondary air system similar to that of the 1199 Panigale has been introduced to optimise operation and reduce cyclic combustion variability without affecting emissions. A controlled flow of fresh air is supplied to the exhaust duct to enable complete oxidisation of hot unburnt gases, to effectively reduce hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide levels. Tailored ergonomics The new Monster 1200 range features a totally redefined size, and ergonomics designed to offer "one-bike-in-the-garage" versatility. The new Monster size ensures ample accomodations even for a rider 185 cm tall and a passenger 175 cm tall, also allowing baggage to be loaded without compromises. The seat position is very comfortable, allowing long distance riding if desired; the riding position is upright thanks to a high handlebar fixed close to the rider; and a passenger seat with easily removed cover, low passenger footpegs, and integrated passenger handles welcome anyone the rider wishes to bring along. Slipper Clutch The transmission features an oil bath clutch with "slipper" function and a lever that is very light to the touch. It is equipped with a gradual self-servo system that compresses the discs when the engine speed is reduced, allowing the load on the pressure plate springs to be reduced. This reduces the stress on the clutch lever, ensuring optimum conditions in city traffic when frequent gear changes are required, or on long trips. When the transmission force is reversed (overload), the same mechanism makes it possible to reduce the pressure on the clutch plates, enabling them to work in "slipper" mode, which reduces the destabilising effect on the rear end during aggressive downshifting and gives a feeling of greater fluidity when decelerating or downshifting in normal driving conditions. Having immediate impact are the lighting elements, day running lights, arranged symmetrically on either side of the dashboard cover: capable of enhancing the whole frontal section, also making the motorcycle more visible and therefore safe during day and night. Another ray of light comes from the four-cylinder engine, now silver, a color that emphasizes its compactness and accurate implementation of all its elements.
