Extremely rare 1963 Daimler SP250. This is the type of vehicle car collectors look for to complete a collection as so few exist, let alone are located in the United States. Not many people have heard or seen a Daimler SP250 with total production numbers for this vehicle over a 5 year run at only 2,654 total produced with Hagerty Insurance believing that only 2500 may still exist. This car was designed as a sports car by British manufacturer Coventry and was the last car launched by Daimler before it was sold to Jaguar Cars in 1960. It originated because Daimler company wanted a saloon car power by a V8 engine, in 1960 Jaguar offered their influence offering a more improved chassis with less flex. Built by the factory as a fiberglass bodied car this example is and powered by a “baby” 2.5L Hemi and with the optional equipment listed below. Optional equipment: Automatic TransmissionWire wheels Front and rear bumpersAdjustable steering columnWindscreen washersHeater. This example has a very original appearance with at least one repaint over its life. The trim and badging all appear to be original and has some pitting and patina from age. The convertible top and interior are in great shape. The engine runs out well and shifts easily. The engine appears original, although a powerglide transmission was installed at some point. It does come with a Daimler automatic 3 speed transmission also. The undercarriage of this SP250 is extremely nice and solid. This is really a quality car that can be enjoyed for years to come as it is… it isn't a fresh frame off restored car and isn't priced as such. If you have any questions or need specifics please ask away. This is the first Daimler SP250 that we have had cross our path and truly feel that it is a collectors car. Not many exist that are in quality condition, and those that do, are usually housed in top Car Collectors collections such as Jay Leno. Speaking of which, this car was purchased out of a 540 car collection on the CNBC Television show “The Car Chasers”. This is the first time we are offering it up for sale. Again if you have any questions or would like additional photographs please do not hesitate to contact us we do check our emails throughout the day. The Engine: The engine bristled with modern technology, including aluminum heads with fully machined hemispherical combustion chambers, hardened valve seats, and 70 degrees between the valves. A very high-mounted central camshaft with aluminum pushrods opened said valves, and double valve springs closed them reliably at engine speeds over 6000 rpm. A finned cast aluminum oil pan carried more than 7 quarts of oil. With 8.2:1 compression, the compact, lightweight engine made 140 hp and 155 lb-ft of what was often described as "turbine-smooth torque.” -MotorTrend About: The British Daimler Motor Company of the 1950s (no relation to Daimler-Benz) was a dead brand walking, primarily making limousines and hearses for the UK upper class and royalty. A fiberglass-bodied sports car with outrageous American-inspired styling seemed nearly impossible. But that’s exactly what appeared on the Daimler stand in 1959 at the New York Auto Show. The Daimler SP250 – originally referred to as the Daimler Dart before Dodge objected – possessed controversial styling. The car’s gaping grille and whisk-like bumper overriders in particular have caused some to refer to the SP250 as an angry catfish. But performance was vivid (120 mph+) due to lightweight construction and a sparkling little 2.5-liter hemi V8. Disc brakes on all four wheels gave excellent stopping power. On the minus side, early cars – known as A-spec cars – lacked rigidity, and doors were known to fly open when being flogged over rough pavement. This was later corrected in 1960 with the stiffened B-spec cars, but heavy and vague steering plagued all of the model’s guises. With production of just over 2,500, surviving cars are prized and surprisingly, several specialists cater well to the car’s needs. -Hagerty Insurance Please Read: This vehicle is being listed by Flat Twelve Gallery, a licensed Texas Dealer, as seen on CNBC's television show “The Car Chasers”, and is located in Lubbock, Texas. 1963 Daimler SP250. 4 speed manual. Original motor, trans, rear; the rest is mostly original. Most of you looking know the Daimler SP250 stats, history facts, & usuals. This car has had much done to it as can be seen in pictures. The last owner had it for about ten years (rarely used; sitting in his Minnisota property storage garage with his other collectibles). He lives in N.Y. full time. This is one of the "improved" models that Jaguar re-inforced (B & C series had their frames beefed up/strengthened starting in 1960 when Jaguar bought out Daimler). Dealers & owners changed various things to their liking in the period when these were new, or fairly new (bumpers, or no bumpers; whiskers; lights, & so on). It will need further tweaking due to the inoperative period in storage. All in all, partially amateur & professional restoration with a final driver friendly result. NEW items in the period of restore/revamps: water & fuel pumps; four wheel disk brakes & new suspension parts; interior (sealer paint & insulation [shown] installed under carpet); a new top (but got ripped upon install, now has a 6" repair patch at the bottom driver's side); paint (no fractures, cracks, or peeling); tires; chromes/emblems; etcetera (to many to list). New glass. Motor: Heads & valves were completely redone with valve seals installed-ported/polished (S250's did not originally have seals which would cause some oils smoke; the upgraded/modernized valve seals alleviates it). The small "rubber" top hoses were nicely done away with by custom *copper soldered* pipes. Cleaner & less leaking (can easily be replaced back to original rubber hoses). A new clutch, pressure plate & throw out bearing was installed before the motor was reinstalled. The frame was in excellent condition when the previous owner took the body off. He prepped, painted, & remounted the body with new required parts. The Hood closes flush (slightly open in picture). Doors/fenders, etcetera have good allignments & close as desired. Definitely needs emergency brake parts (note emergency brake handle is not installed & I do not have it). The left rear brake is locking up. I have a replacement kit to rebuild the wheel cylinder AND am leaving the emergency brake handle/sticky brake for the next owner to do. A Mr. John Carey supplies parts (& has the emergency brake handle/parts) & Daimler SP250 much knowledge he use to restore them); [email protected] Car comes with a parts supply resource CD; a Daimler SP250 illustrated hardcover details & history book(1 inch thick; sells for about $70 on Ebay) & a trunk full of parts. The car is finished as in the first 8 pictures. The remaining pictures was its restore/revamp process documentation. Email for questions & phone number. An As Is sale. $500 deposit is non-refundable & due in 24 hours. Full payment balance due in 7 days; 3 weeks to get the car or it goes into storage at buyers expense (wouldn't be released until storage paid). No warranty implied or buyer's remorse pacifications after sale.
