The Norton 961 Series II line of Commando and Dominator motorcycles are the first in the series of new production Norton Motorcycles.  Powered by a fairly conventional (for Norton) looking 961cc parallel twin cylinder motor, cooled by the flow of air and oil and fueled by modern EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) and perhaps most importantly spinning a superbly designed counter balancer shaft, this is the motor taking Norton into the modern world, and smoothly at that.  All those stories of vintage Nortons with motor vibration capable of breaking fillings loose from your teeth, those are stories for old timers, anyone trying out the newest 961 series of bikes will be rather impressed by the smoothness, not only the power and torque. To keep the look appropriate for the modern classic class of bikes the EFI is well hidden and it takes more than a cursory glance to even spot the lack of old-school carburetors mixing the fuel and air that will propel your ride! 1974 Norton 850 Commando – Barn Find - 7104 Original Miles One Owner – Original Texas Title and Chilton’s Manual Bought new in 1974 - in storage unit since 1977. Poor fellow fell in love and the little lady made him park it. Two good parts to this story; he still has his lovely wife and someone can now put this great bike back on the road. When he parked it he did it right – all fluids properly drained. The Norton still looks great, as you can see from the pictures. The surface rust on the chrome seems to polish up nicely, before I ran out of motivation to keep polishing. All original as it came out in ’74. Includes storage rack, backseat rest and the factory alarm system. It has not been fired up since we got it, but has good compression. Looking forward to hearing if the new owner plans to keep it as original or build a café racer. I’d love to make it mine, except already have three other projects going. High Quality Rider (1970 S model) just out of the shop after a through inspection. The engine has a little over 100 miles on a complete rebuild from crankshaft up. Rims and fenders are showing their age in the chrome but still shine and very acceptable. The New Paint is Don Hutchinson's Norton Yellow.
