2008 Moto Guzzi Norge ABS, Yeah we know a few of you might think “refrigerator” when you hear this name but that’s not even close to what this superbly crafted machine is all about. Some years ago Moto Guzzi organized an endurance trip to Norway to demonstrate the ruggedness of their machines. It was very successful.When the machine that would represent that adventure was to be named our guess is that they felt they would run into issues calling the machine the Norway, but Norge fit well and sounded… well, very European and solid. Clearly their intent. And the word Norge is an official Norwegian name for Norway. No matter the official name the bike itself is great too look at, superb to straddle and runs exceptionally well.It is loaded with real world, real use features. These are 90 degree V twins of the Euro variety that still share the cylinders in the wind concept with BMW for smooth, cool operation. This one boasts an 1,151 cc fuel injected motor that develops roughly 95 HP at 7,800 RPM and 75 ft./lbs. at 5,800 RPM. And it weighs in at only 542 pounds and carries 6 gallons of fuel when filled to capacity. They even get darn good fuel economy – averages are around 42-44 MPG.The bike has a beautiful set of conventional forks coupled to a beautiful set of full floating discs on gold anodized carriers that are stopped from forward motion by 4 piston BREMBO calipers up front and twins in the rear. All supported by a real ABS or anti-lock braking system. The Norge also sports a single sided swingarm, final drive and driveshaft operation as do most BMW’s. The exhaust appears to be stainless steel as has become the European trend and the pipes have been exceptionally well cared for as you can see.
