The 2016 KTM 1290 Super Duke R has been given the term of Streetfighter due to the powerful performance, hard-hitting torque-monster of an engine, long-travel and big bump-absorbing suspension and its cozy cockpit that takes the pain out of long rides. Featuring a honking 1.3-liter LC8-generation Twin wedged within a slim, tall and taut steel-trellis chassis, the Duke wows riders with keen lines and eyelid-peeling performance. With 80-plus lb-ft of torque available at the right wrist, from just above 4000 rpm, the 1290 stops the competition in the burnout department. The previous 690 Duke was the most powerful production single to date, but the new model is even stronger. Two key design elements have enabled KTM to reach an even higher level of power and smoothness: the introduction of KTM’s Ride Mode technology along with a revamping of more than 50 percent of the LC4 motor’s mechanical components. This latest Duke is geared toward maximum performance, but it’s also designed to be user-friendly for beginning riders. Even the chassis, which retains the same lightweight stainless chromoly-steel trellis-type frame as previous Dukes, received some subtle-yet-significant changes to improve handling. The new bike also gets some slight tweaks to its styling while retaining the minimalist, narrow lines so beloved by Duke enthusiasts. KTM has ruled off-road for decades. The special edition SIX DAYS models celebrate this success with special performance upgrades and top-of-the-line components. In 2016 the ISDE (International Six Days Enduro) will be held in Navarra, Spain and the KTM model line-up has been suitably equipped to handle anything the dusty and rocky terrain can throw at it. The RC390 was designed and developed at KTM HQ in Mattighofen, Austria, but is manufactured in the company’s Indian facility, which has kept cost down and allowed the bike to not only address the needs of emerging markets and developed countries with tiered licensing laws, but also to offer budget-minded American buyers an exotic alternative in the class. Based on the Duke 390, the RC390 is the new flagship of KTM’s small-displacement single-cylinder range made up of 125, 200 and 373cc models. The Duke’s proven liquid-cooled, dohc, fuel-injected counter-balanced four-stroke single serves as a stressed member of the RC’s tubular steel-trellis frame. The Duke’s 25-degree rake and 3.9-inch trail have been steepened/shortened on the RC390 to 23.5 degrees and 3.5 inches. Add in its shorter 52.8-inch wheelbase and it’s all about sharper handling response.Contact Dominic Negrete for more info:Work: (562)945-3494Cell: (562)777-5321Email:
It’s pretty easy to dismiss small-displacement bikes as “entry” machines for people who just don’t know how to ride, something you’d throw away just as soon as you figured out the clutch, etc. But the 390 Duke is so much more. Yes, it’s really easy to ride. It’s also lightweight and compact. Which are all excellent qualities for any rider. The 390 Duke’s real trick is taking that easy-to-ride nature and sliding in a major dose of great power (40 hp on our dyno) and a chassis that works great even for an expert-level rider. This one-bike solution also comes with a great price. For the second year, this KTM tops the class. Contact Dominic Negrete at: Work: (562)945-3494 Cell: (562)777-5321
