For explorers who prefer two-wheel drive, the Prairie 400 is the ATV of choice. It shares the same liquid-cooled, 391cc, single over-head cam, 4-valve four-stroke engine as its four-wheel drive sibling and utilizes the Kawasaki Automatic Power-Drive System (KAPS) that requires no shifting once the transmission is placed into High or Low range or reverse. Other features include dual front disc brakes, MacPherson strut front suspension, steel cargo racks that can carry nearly 250 pounds, and a towing capability of 1,100 pounds. The Prairie 400 ATV has a comfortable saddle for day-long excursions, full-sized floorboards with extra large drainage holes to help keep the rider’s feet dry and new raised footpegs for extra grip. It also has a 12V accessory terminal at the base of the handlebars, so the rider can recharge a cell phone or a GPS unit to find the most interesting way back to base camp.

1999 Kawasaki Prairie 400 2X4, WELL TAKEN CAREOF - Last year Kawasaki introduced the Prairie 400 two-wheel drive all-terrain vehicle (ATV), which was based on the award winning Prairie 400 4x4. The enthusiast magazines loved it, and consumers thought highly of it too. With its easy-to-use fully automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT), plush suspension, excellent handling and comfortable layout, the Prairie 400 2X4, continues the tradition of excellence. Kawasaki builds on the highly-acclaimed Prairie 400 ATV line with many revisions to the 1999 model to make it even better. There is more horsepower, a totally-revamped Kawasaki Automatic Power-Drive System (KAPS) for increased performance, a revised shifting mechanism, new rear brake assembly and distinctive styling refinements.
