Ducati 999 Evo-R Evoluzione“I have something here you might like to see.”This is one of those things a 999R that picks up where the Borgo Panigale works left off. A quick visual inventory reveals the obvious differences. There’s a carbon-fiber fuel cell ($1200) . Forged-aluminum Marchesini wheels give way to carbon-fiber BST hoops ($3816) shod with Pirelli Diablo Corsa radials. There’s an hlins R/T fork ($2598) carrying Superbike-spec valving. To the rear, the standard-issue hlins shock gets a titanium spring ($275). Standard brakes come off to make room for Brembo billet racing calipers ($2498) that grab Brake Tech’s swank Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) rotors ($1838).Ducati Corse did all the heavy lifting in the engine department: heavy-breathing heads are fitted with big titanium valves, while titanium connecting rods carry chunky, 104mm forged pistons. The package is good for 139 rear-wheel horsepower at 9750 rpm as delivered, so Zeller left the internals alone. But because the standard catalyst-equipped exhaust plumbing is something of a plug, a full Leo Vince 57/60 titanium system ($3768), complete with ceramic coating inside and out ($350), was fitted. So far we’ve just hit the highlights. Details such as exquisite black paint and red powder-coat on the frame, one headlight instead of two (no more high-beam), Competizione clutch internals and drilled billet cover finish the job. We could go on … but you get the point.With 1 gallon of super-unleaded in the tank, the result weighs 399 pounds–34 less than a standard 999R. Zeller’s characteristically meticulous tuning pays off with 155 rear-wheel horses at 10,500 rpm–16for. Zeller’s clutch and slave cylinder make for easy progress through inevitable L.A. traffic. The Leo Vince exhaust is loud, but that ceramic coating keeps it relatively cool; no more slow-roasting your right boot.Repeat the survival mantra: “This is a $65,000 motorcycle.” Now aim it down a straight piece of suitably desolate pavement and get some. The tach flicks toward 10,000 in the first three gears while the front wheel loses interest in the pavement and Mr. Sphincter tries to inhale the natty suede upholstery, all in less time than it takes to read this sentence. Still, half of the grip’s rotation where you need to feed power with maximum precision, then speeding things up a bit from there. Relative to any current liter-class four, this maximum 999 generates staggering corner speed with a lot less effort. Far smoother than any other Ducati, the evo-r makes 80-mph corners feel more like 60. PLEASE NOTE: CycleTrader's model number listing does not distinguish between the 999R and the 999R Xerox, but in 2005 there were no Xerox bikes made. This bike has the full red paint job, NOT the Xerox paint; see pictures.You are looking at an extremely rare bike! Ducati imported fewer than 300 of the 999R bikes in 2005 to meet racing homologation requirements. This bike is fully set up for racing: the 999R had a special engine (not just a souped-up version of the one from the 999/999S), full Ohlins suspension / brakes / steering damper, and full carbon fiber body work.On top of all that, I've added an STM slipper clutch and the Termignoni 57mm symmetric race exhaust, including the matching performance ECU to accommodate the extra breathing room. When we added the exhaust the bike pulled more than 150 horsepower on the dyno! (I've also added Pazzo racing levers; to me they are more comfortable than the stock levers.)This bike also has quite low mileage: 4432 on the odometer as I write this (see picture).Mechanically this bike is in perfect condition. It starts right up, runs and shifts smoothly, and has absolutely *no* issues. Cosmetically the bike is not perfect: there are a few scrapes on the bodywork that I've pictured below. These are purely cosmetic; there is neither cracking nor any kind of structural issue.If you're looking for an amazing, high-performance bike that is completely ready for the track or the street, look no further. The feathery overall weight of the 999R has been achieved by the use of several parts in magnesium, including the front headlight support and rear view mirror supports. The tall Plexiglas nose fairing, identical to that used in competition, provides protection even at top speed. 2006 DUCATI 999R, 2006 999R Track Bike. Both raced and ridden on the street, this particular 999R is a great track-bike for a burgeoning Ducati Enthusiast looking to get into track days or amateur racing. The 999R was the last of the beastly Ducati R models without electronic controls, thus making a wonderfully raw track weapon. The previous owner installed the current 145hp engine with ~5,000 miles on it and rode it for approximately another 5,000 miles including a trip to Laguna Seca. He changed the oil every 1,000 miles and the oil filter every 2,000 miles. The speedometer isn t functional so there is no way to know exactly how many miles are on the machine as a whole. Mechanically, this 999R is track-ready having just had its cam belts, battery, and oil changed. There is a single projector beam headlight attached to the fairing, but it isn t currently plugged in. The bike also comes with the rear lights and turn signals but doesn t have any provision for a kickstand or functional brake light switches or front turn signals. This 999R has a Termignoni Full System, Speedymoto clip-on handlebars, Speedymoto frame protection, Speedymoto front axle protection, Speedymoto clutch cover and pressure plate, Speedymoto water pump cover, Acculine/Ducati performance foot controls, aftermarket fairing stay, aftermarket race fairings with no barge-boards, GP suspension rebuilt Ohlins forks and shock, and Forged Marchesini wheels. As it sits, this machine is capable of sub 1:12 lap times at PIR with an expert rider. The suspension is optimized for a ~180lb rider/gear combination but could be adjusted for any weight.
