It's not going to win any enduros or cross-country races, and it's far from the lightest dual-sport motorcycle ever built. And it hasn't significantly changed since it first became the SE model rather than the SR 17 years ago. But for anyone looking to do some fun, not-too-intense off-road exploring on a bike that can easily stay ahead of four-wheel traffic—or even run away from it if necessary—the DR650SE is an excellent, affordable choice. Not only is the SE's counterbalanced engine noticeably faster, torquier and smoother than the big Singles powering its closest competitors (Honda's XR650L and Kawasaki's KLR650), it has a reputation for being downright bulletproof. What's more, the chassis provides enough on- and off-road handling competence to let you have a good time without scaring the bejeezus out of you or hammering you to a pulp. Plus, if you're a tad on the short side or don't have an NBA-caliber inseam, Suzuki's accessory department can provide you with a rear-suspension lowering kit that, in conjunction with a quick-and-easy sliding of the fork tubes up through the triple-clamps, can drop the seat height by about an inch and a quarter. Besides, look at the ridiculously low prices listed here; this is one heck of a lot of motorcycle for not a lot of money.

VERY NICE LIKE NEW LOW MILES! SAVE!!The 2015 Husqvarna FE 501 S is equipped with WP 4CS Forks that feature tool-less rebound and compression adjustment. While the seat on the 2015 FE 501 S is slim it is also very firm.(Above) The 2015 Husqvarna FE 501S is equipped with WP 4CS Forks that feature tool-less rebound and compression adjustment. (Below) While the seat on the 2015 FE 501 S is slim it is also very firm. Now before the naysayers begin the rant of, "It's just a KTM 500 EXC with white plastic that costs more," let's dispel that misconception. Yes, it has close ties to its orange brethren, but there is plenty to distinguish the two. And even if the FE 501S were a clone of the EXC it wouldn't be a bad thing as the 500 EXC is one of the very best out there. In the simplest of terms the FE 501S is a FE 501 Enduro machine with all the necessary bits to make it street legal. . No more, no less. Turn signals, high and low beams, a brake light, mirrors, a horn and DOT approved rubber get you legal in the eyes of the law. This is as close as you can be to a full-on dirt bike that won't get you pulled over. The FE's chassis is built on a chrome-moly double-cradle frame that is fitted with a composite polymide subframe that houses the airbox. Up front, WP 4CS four-chambered closed-cartridge forks provide tool-free compression and rebound adjustments and are a step up from the KTM EXC equipment. At the rear a WP Dual Compression Control Shock uses linkage to control the rear wheel travel rather than the PDS rear end on the orange dual sport. The FE 501S weighs in slightly heavier than the KTM 500EXC at 251 pounds versus 246 pounds. The 510cc SOHC Single powering the FE 501S is the same that resides in the standard FE 501 and KTM 500 EXC, but has a thicker, three-layer head gasket that lowers compression, increasing durability and improving engine smoothness. Power is metered via a 6-speed transmission fed by a Damped Diaphragm Steel (DDS) clutch. A Brembo hydraulic master cylinder actuates the clutch.
