Announced for the 1981 season, the R80G/S was both revolutionary and something of a parts-bin special. It used the road-bike 800cc R80/7 engine in a modified R65 frame. Revolutionary, though, was the rear suspension, which introduced BMW’s now famous concept of the shaft drive housing forming a single-sided swingarm. The payback for using the Monolever unit, as BMW named it, was extra torsional rigidity and lower weight. The G/S was a tall bike with good ground clearance, motocross-style handlebars and long suspension travel. The full-size adventure tourer was born. Classic bike with great reliabilty.

Highly coveted bmw R100GSPD in excellent running condition. 8 gallon tank, 21" front wheel and super lightweight makes this bike very fun to ride. Has just over 100k and mechanically this bike has no issues. Never been down. Probably this is the cheapest Airhead GSPD that are getting harder to find. Ive added HID lights, Garmin 276c GPS in a Touratech mount, Pivot Pegz, Wolfman tank bag, etc. Its got Staintune exhaust, recently new starter and rebuilt front end with dual pot brake caliper, and a new battery. Ive got a pile of extra and original parts.

The bike also comes with weatherproof hard cases, a set of 30/70 knobbies, an extra leather Corbin leather saddle, a tool kit specific to this make a model, and all the receipts from any work I have done on it as well as receipts from the past 2 previous owners. The original Gelände Straße. This is a running example with one small problem I have not had time to fix. The detention spring for third and fourth gear is broken or has slipped off. I have not been able to ride it for a while. It has upgraded drive shaft, Corbin touring saddle, hard luggage and an old Garmin GPS. I also have the original steel tank headlight and seat. Mileage is 89000. Will include all spare parts I have collected.
