Converted into cafe racer last year. She is a bonafide cafe racer as she has made "the ton". Everything has been changed and rebuilt and gone over with a fine tooth comb. Runs like new. I also have all the original parts if you want to turn it back into an RT one day.
This bike offers a great value to anyone looking to add to their airhead collection or pick up a ready to ride vintage touring bike with only 22,000 miles. The bike was purchased and ridden in the early 1980s and then stored until 2013. In Spring 2013 the bike was sent to Heid's Hodaka in Eastern NY to be restored to running order. After $4600 of parts and professional labor, the bike has racked up only a couple summer rides since. I have replaced the valve covers, exhaust, battery and rear rotor since then. Additionally, I had the right valve cover, front cap, timing case cover, top cover and fairing support rod powder coated for maximum longevity. The bike comes with original hard cases, a spare left and right valve cover, and record of the maintenance performed during the overhaul at Heid's. 1981 BMW R100, Red and White custom paint job and café fairing, ride-off center stand. Looks good, needs a wax and more time on the road. 1973 BMW R 100 , FOR SALE: 1973 BMW /5 with 1977 R100/7 Engine and Gearbox. Bike has 83,820 miles on it. Engine conversion was done by a previous owner, and has about 20k miles on it since rebuild. This motorbike is solid and runs great after a recent tune-up and engine oil change by Motorcycle Works, Ltd. in Brooklyn. There are some cosmetic flaws and some surface rust on the side panels. I have upgraded the headlight and handlebar switchgear, as well as a speedometer upgrade and calibration by Palo Alto Speedometer. The starter relay has been modified to fix the cricket noise. Bike is equipped with a Brown side stand and a helmet lock. Headlight is covered in a custom leather cover by Via Meccanica in Brooklyn. Tires are about 18 months old and in great shape. A new sealed battery was installed in October. If you know anything about these bikes, you know they were meant to last. Vintage bikes need a lot of attention and are fun to refurbish, and this one would make an excellent daily rider or winter project.
