2016 KTM Freeride 250 R, 2016 KTM 250 SX Unrivalled 2-Stroke Performance With enough power to excel on all sorts of tracks and terrain, combined with an extremely lightweight chassis, the 250 SX has one of the best power-to-weight ratios in motocross. The unrivalled performance of the lightweight 2-stroke engine makes it a true contender against the more complex 4-strokes. For MY 2016 the 250 SX features detail improvements and new colors and graphics, but basically retains the same chassis and engine specification as MY 2015. Features May Include: ENGINE The powerful KTM 250 SX engine unites an unbeatable power-to-weight ratio with outstanding performance and extremely easy handling. CYLINDER The cylinder of the 250 SX is fitted with a sophisticated TVC (Twin Valve Control) power valve, providing adjustable power characteristics, which can be changed within a few seconds thanks to two supplied springs offering optimal settings for different tracks and rider preference. CARBURETOR The 250 SX is fitted with a proven Keihin PWK 38S AG carburetor producing the perfect air-fuel mixture over the entire range at average conditions. For extreme temperature or altitude the setting can be tuned with supplied jets and needles according to a setting list in the manual. LINKAGE/SHOCKABSORBER The linkage system of the 250 SX features a progression curve with a high initial rate ensuring good stability. The high-end WP 5018 shock absorber guarantees outstanding response and damping characteristics and of course compression and rebound damping can be adjusted to the track conditions and the rider's preferences. FORK The fully adjustable upside-down closed cartridge fork from WP Suspension features a diameter of 48 mm and provides excellent damping characteristics. It is adjustable in rebound and compression. SEAT The ergonomically perfectly designed seat is equipped with a durable foam core, ensuring both greater comfort and higher stability. WHEELS The 250 SX is fitted with lightweight, CNC-machined hubs, high-end Excel rims and new, weight reduced spokes with lightweight aluminium nipples providing maximum stability at minimum weight. The latest MX tires from Dunlop (Geomax MX 32) have been developed from KTM factory racing in the USA, factory testing and expert rider feedback in racing. They guarantee perfect traction and outstanding performance. BRAKES High-tech Brembo brakes have always been standard equipment on KTM offroad bikes, and are combined with newly designed and weight-reduced Wave discs made by GALFER featuring also an improved heat resistance. Frame During the course of developing the FREERIDE 250 R, KTM design engineers pulled out all the stops to exploit the full potential of the substantially more compact two-stroke engine. As with the FREERIDE 350, the frame is a composite construction comprising high-grade, chrome-molybdenum steel profiles bolted together with forged light-alloy components. However, compared with the FREERIDE 350 frame, the compact two-stroke engine with its laterally routed exhaust has allowed the lower frame tubes to be raised by a whole 60 millimetres. This results in significantly greater ground clearance – in conjunction with the large steering lock, a benefit that becomes all the more apparent, the tougher the terrain: Particularly when negotiating trials sections, the FREERIDE 250 R bottoms out much later. Subframe The bolted subframe made from high-strength plastic impresses with high inherent stability and makes a significant contribution to the lightweight-construction concept of the FREERIDE 250 R. The rider can get a firm hold at the integrated grip recesses well-protected from dirt should the rear wheel ever become stuck in the mud. Battery The Freeride 250 R for MY 2015 is the first KTM motorcycle to be equipped as standard with a lithium-ion starter battery. This innovative technology not only saves one kilo of weight, it impresses above all with significantly greater efficiency, thereby ensuring higher efficiency of the electric starter system - in other words: the battery doesn't give up the ghost, even when started frequently. Swingarm Weighing only 3.2 kg, the light-alloy cast swingarm has been designed by KTM chassis experts to support the suspension system comprising frame and suspension components with targeted flexibility in the direction of oscillation. At the same time, it contributes with its high torsional stiffness to the outstanding tracking stability of the FREERIDE 250 R. The progressively functioning acting PDS shock absorber is hinged directly at the swingarm. Wheels and Tires The FREERIDE 250 R rolls on extremely light, spoked wheels with anodised, light-alloy rims from GIANT, CNC-machined hubs and light-alloy spoke nipples.
