When you have a bike in your range like the 250 SX-F, which has been the dominant force in the World Championship MX2 class for years, then it would be very easy to just sit back and carry on as before. Luckily, however, that's not how things work in racing, or at KTM for that matter. That's why the new 2011 generation is being launched with a completely reworked chassis, new bodywork and the next stage in engine development with fuel injection.

2014 KTM 250 SX-F, 2014 KTM 250 SX-F THE ULTIMATE WINNING BIKE The 250 SX-F has been a constant of the MX2 World Championships, bringing the World Champion's crown home five times in a row with Jeffery Herlings taking the 2012 title. Now, the machine's success enters a new era with KTM's first AMA Supercross Championship courtesy of Ken Roczen in the highly contested 250 SX West series. Championship performance proven by two of the world's greatest - the KTM 250 SX-F is set to continue its dominant performance at the highest level. Featres May Include: AIR BOXThe air box design offers maximum protection of the air filter against soiling while ensuring maximum airflow for top performance. The Twin Air filter can be changed without tools in seconds, a standard for KTM.ENGINEThe KTM 250 SX-F all but guarantees top positions in highly competitive motocross competition as proven by a multitude of World Championships and KTM's first Supercross Championship. For 2014, KTM Engineers have implanted a lighter, 5-speed gear box into the powerplant to reduce weight and fine-tune MX performance. The combination of a compact engine layout and unrivaled power will make the 250 SX-F an undisputed winner.PISTONSThe forged box-type piston stands out with its extra rigid structure, combined with minimum weight. Thanks to the low oscillating masses, the engine displays extremely lively characterisitics.CLUTCHThe highly compact CSS (Coil Spring Steel) cltuch uses a wear-free steel basket and eight clutch plates which are extremely heat resistant due to their steel carrier discs. The Brembo hydraulic system with its new master cylinder provides easy and precise modulation.TRANSMISSIONIn 2014, the 250 SX-F engine is distinguished by a new gear box offering easy and precise shifting. As the number of gears has been reduced from 6 to 5, the new transmission is 250g lighter than its predecessor.COUNTER BALANCE SHAFTIn order to balance the mass-forces, the 250 SX-F engine uses a multifunctional counter balance shaft which also drives the water pump and timing chain. The engine receives a new water pump cover with a new gasket in order to optimize the seal.CYLINDER HEADThe centerpiece of the compact DOHC engine is its cutting-edge cylinder head with two overhead camshafts and DLC-coated followers - a design that allows to break the engine speed "sound barrier" of 14,000 rpm. Combined with extra lightweight titanium valves (intake 32.5mm, exhaust 26.5mm), flow optimized ports ensure a maximized flow rate for top performance.CRANKSHAFTThe 250 SX-F's crankshaft employs a plain big end bearing. Two force-fitted bearing shells run directly on the crank pin. This design is a major prerequisite for the extremely high engine speed levels and un

Features May Include: ENGINEThe new 250 SX-F engine is based on the similar overall design of its predecessor, with some major refinements to make this MX2 power plant more compact and lighter, with the production of improved torque and power across the entire rpm range. Perhaps one of the most impressive benefits of the new design is a weight reduction of 1.1 kg to a total of 26.1 kg, including the incredibly beneficial electric starter. The reworked power unit guarantees an improved power curve over the entire rev range up to 14,000 rpm, which makes the new 250 SX-F much easier to ride for both amateur and professional riders.CYLINDER HEADThe centerpiece of the compact DOHC (Double Overhead Camshaft) engine is the new cutting-edge cylinder head. It features improved combustion chamber geometry, two 150 g lighter overhead camshafts with new timings, plus a friction-optimized super-fine surface, new finger followers with a 30 % harder DLC coating and a reworked timing drive (friction reduced and shorter DID timing chain, new sprockets and chain guides). New valve springs and retainers for the four lightweight titanium valves (intake 32.5 mm, exhaust 26.5 mm) and high-flow ports create a maximized flow rate for an optimal power band and maximum performance, which concludes at an engine speed sound barrier of 14,000 rpm.CYLINDER & PISTONIn the reworked and shorter cylinder that has a bore of 78 mm, is a weight-reduced, forged bridged box-type piston made by CP. It features a unique piston ground shape adapted to the new combustion chamber and stands out with its extra rigid structure, combined with a low weight. The compression ratio is at 14.4:1. Thanks to the low oscillating masses, the engine offers extremely lively characteristics.BATTERY AND WIRING HARNESSAs in the past, all new SX-F engines are fitted with the proven electric starter a unique KTM feature and a major benefit at all levels of motocross racing.
