Please read my 100% feedback. I am 60 years old, retired, old-school ethical, and buy, ride and sell motorcycles like a hobby. It is not a business Everything I write will be absolutely true as a know it to be. If I don't know, I'll let you know that as well. I am selling this bike because although I love the looks of a vintage Harley, I have found that, at my age, I'm more cut out for dealers doing all the wrenching, and the comfortable, long trips I have enjoyed with the modern cruisers I've owned in the past, so I am going back to them. Shovelheads are beautiful vintage engines, and the bike has much personality. It rides low and feels very comfortable on the road, but the Shovel requires care and maintenance beyond what modern bikes do, and are best owned by someone who either knows how to do their own work, or has an available Shovel mechanic in the area. Most dealerships do not have technicians trained to service them. I purchased this bike on 2/24/14 through eBay. It was sold by a 100% dealer in Pompano Beach, Florida. I live in Montana. There were 92 people watching this bike. I couldn't resist how nice it looked, and I payed full price price for it. The history given by the dealer at the time was that it was previously owned by a physician for 17 years, the top-end was rebuilt at a date unknown, had received a very nice paint job, and it had a plethora of modifications, 2" extended forks, many upgrades and was chromed-out about as much as you can get. When the bike arrived, it started with the electric start and the kick-start. It tended to surge and bog intermittently on the road when at a constant level of throttle. Since I knew very little about shovel heads, I rode it to a local independent shovel-head expert mechanic, and left it with him to go over it with a fine-tooth comb, tune it, and find and repair anything it needed. After having him service the bike, this is what I now know about the bike, and what he did: What he did on 5/8/14:Re-torqued anything that needed it on all major componentsReplaced an oil lineInstalled a new chrome, ventilated engine inspection cover over the primaryInstalled new rubber-mounted license plate holderRepaired tachometerRepaired trip on speedometer Removed and cleaned carb and adjusted it for altitudeInstalled new front brake calipers on both sidesInstalled "T" in oil line to be able to drain oil tank Oil changeTopped off gear oilNew chrome spring for kick starterNew kick starter rubberRe-wired areas which he said were done incorrectly during rebuildTotal: $1,000.00 What I can remember about what he told me had been done to the bike:Screw-on oil filter mounted to billet aluminumElectronic ignitionHe wasn't positive, but believes it has hydraulic valvesS&S carb kitBelt-drive primary which he said looked new.Very good quality roller-chain secondaryChain oiler plugged5-gallon Fat Bob fuel tankAll braided SS cablesHe told me that it appeared the bike had been stored for years after the paint job and rebuild, because the carb was dirty from sitting fuel. He rode the bike several miles, and said it rode just fine in his opinion, and he didn't see, hear or feel anything abnormal. He did say, however, that the primary belt "whined" a bit louder than others he has heard, but was not concerned with itI installed all new fuel lines an an additional in-line filter, rather than just rely on the little screen in the fuel petcock. The tires appear to have about 40% left on them. I've been at 75mph on them with no problems, but you may wish to replace them at some time due to age. The bike runs smooth as silk down the highway now, does not pull, and idles smoothly at 1K RPM. It immediately starts using the starter, but takes the usual muscle and know-how to start using the kicker if you wish to go that route. I have started it with the kicker on several occasions. One of the first things I noticed was that the exhaust was clear, as in no smoke of any color whatsoever, and it had a great, tight and solid sound to it, with no unusual engine noises at all. You need to be positive when shifting, no light footing it like you can do with modern Harley's, and the shift travel is fairly long because of the forward control extension. The bike is gorgeous, and the paint is excellent. The majority of the chrome is near spotless. Few areas are not. Even the swing-arm is nicely chromed. With the amazing amount of billet aluminum and chrome, this bike shows up close as the older resto-mod that it is, with a mixture of aging and clean, clear parts. I would be proud to put this bike in a show, but consider it a rider, as it is not "pristine" but is rather a very nice eye catcher, and receives many adoring looks and compliments in town. I allowed the bike to sit in the garage for one week, then started it with ease, and almost instantly it fired up. The exhaust has a nice rumble to it, is moderately loud, but not obnoxiously so. Please, I don't want anyone regretting their purchase, and I will offer no warranty, so I encourage a private inspection for 100% satisfaction, and for you to look closely at all of the photographs, as they depict every flaw I could find. If you do not have a 100% rating, or at least 10 transactions, please contact me before bidding, or I will cancel the bid. I can be available to assist a shipper, but the buyer is responsible for shipping costs and scheduling. I will publish all questions and answers. Please do not hesitate to ask questions about this bike. If I have missed something, or you would like other photos, please contact me and I will accommodate you to the best of my ability, as I want you to be fully informed about your purchase. Thanks to all for taking a peek at this "Black Beauty", and have a wonderful day!
