The all new R1 provides racers and enthusiast sport riders with a taste of what it would be like to ride the race winning Yamaha M1. A showcase of Yamaha's technology leadership, the all new R1 raises the bar with its uncompromised performance and handling.Engine FeaturesAll new, ultra-lightweight, compact, 998cc, DOHC, 16-valve (4-valves / cyl.), liquid-cooled, in-line four-cylinder engine with "cross plane" style crankshaft.The key components of this cutting edge engine design are the "cross plane" crankshaft and an uneven firing order. Both of these features are used on Yamaha's race winning M1 MotoGP racer. The R1 cross plane crankshaft locates the center two rods at a 90 degree plane from the outer cylinders. This means instead of the crank pins aligned on the same plane (a straight line drawn through the center of the crankshaft), they align on 2 planes in the form of a cross ... or "cross plane". Working in conjunction with the cross plane crank is an uneven firing order. This R1 engine fires 1,3,2,4 cylinders and the firing intervals are uneven at 270 / 180/ 90 /180 degrees. What all this means to the rider is the most linear torque possible and amazing throttle control. This engine design allows a whole new level of rider - machine communication. Horsepower increases have been gained through increased intake air volume, reduced internal friction and weight reductions. 2003 Yamaha Yzf R6, Yes, I know what Blue Book value is and no, I won't sell it for that, or $3500, or any other lowball offer. I am well aware of what's out there and have seen the quality of bikes this age priced at Blue Book. Let's just say you get what you pay for. With that being said, I'm selling a pristine, 2 owner, garage queen R6. Fuel injected. Bone stock and never altered. Still even has the factory "mud flap" intact. Both owners have been mature and responsible adults. Previous owner was an engineer.....I am a police officer. Bike actually has less than the indicated mileage, as I installed a new D.I.D chain and sprocket kit that has +2 teeth in the rear, making the odometer/speedometer read slightly high. The only blemish is on the left fairing where the original owner lost his footing in his gravel driveway and let the bike fall over. Damage is confined to the small square area as shown on the left middle fairing and a light scuff on the left stator cover. Very minor. I just completed an oil/filter change along with brake fluid flush. Michelin Pilot Power tires are in great shape. Bike is ready to go. Includes an OEM Yamaha air filter that is still in the plastic ($50). Bike has zero issues. Only selling to move up to a liter bike. Clear SC title in hand.
