For sale or trade is a 1981 Yamaha XS 650 Dual Sport motorcycle. I have owned this bike for the past 6 years and have done a large amount of (tasteful) custom work to this bike. I planned to bring this bike down to the Tail of the Dragon in NC so no expense was spared on handling/style. I will try and best describe this the work that has been done without writing a novel.First off, everything on the frame was removed and disassembled. The frame was then shaved of all useless brackets/mounts then painted. A swing arm was added/converted from a Yamaha Radian (very popular among street trackers). During the install, I added bronze swing arm bushings and new rear shocks to give the bike an aggressive look. The front forks were completely rebuilt. The lowers have all new seals/boots and were shaved/polished by Hugh’s handbuilt in NC. The fork tubes are new from Mikes XS and have upgraded progressive springs. The triple tree was sand blasted and painted and steering bearings were upgraded from standard balls to tapered rollers. The wheels and tires were also completely disassembled. The hubs blasted, painted, and rebuild with new bearings and seals. The rims were professionally polished by Proctors Metal Finishing in Muskegon. The hubs and rims were laced with new stainless spokes and trued. Tires are brand new dual sport from CC Cycle in Muskegon. Front rotor is drilled and a new caliper, master cylinder, and brake line finish up the front. (Still needs fluid added and bled). Rear brake hub was polished at Proctors and new pads/springs were installed.Bars are new dirtbike bars, mounts were blasted painted. Foot pegs were blasted and new mounting rubber and foot rubbers were installed. Shift lever is new “Big foot” shifter (Mikes XS). Seat is custom mounted to hide electronics. Tank has new mounting rubbers and rebuilt gas cap with key. Chain is also new stainless. Most parts were blasted and painted to make this truly a nice bike. I also used a lot of new hardware. Motor has stock rotating assembly. Hughs PMA kit was recently installed along with a new Pamco electronic ignition. Carbs are also new Mikuni 34MM VMs purchased from 650central. Motor has an updated clutch assembly and new clutch plates. Performance spring kit was also added (Mikes XS). Sprocket shaft seal and clutch pushrod seal were also replaced the motor. Internal motor oil filter was replaced but could use a new door.This bike is currently not running good enough to ride. I can get the bike to fire up but have not had a chance to tune the carbs and time the motor. I have all the literature from Hughes, Pamco Pete, and 650 centraljust can’t find the time to get this baby finished. I am in no need to sell but could use the cash for other projects (The wife is getting fed up with of my toys).Bike is for sale for $3000 cash (Firm) If you know anything about these bikes you know this is well worth the money. I literally bought this bike on impulse two days ago. The previous owner paid to have all work done and then decided to buy a Sporty. I have had several of these and if doesn`t sell will tear down and build to show in the winter. Bike was done RIGHT. Hard tailed and stretched neck for better rake and riding(also doesn`t look so squatty like most). All the hard work has been done and just needs the timing set. Has tons of compression and fires up on starting fluid. Will probably run and ride as it sets but my leg cannot kick it due to injury. The starter is on bike but not wired up(does work though because I quickly hit it with power and engaged). Built as a rat bike but very soundly done. Here is a 1983 Yamaha xs650 street tracker I just finished. The bike started out with less than 5000 miles and has just over a 100 on build. The bike has new silver and black base clear paint(beautiful!!!!) on tank and rear fender. Bike runs perfectly. Currently is kick only but have switch if new owner wants to hook up electric start. I made the side plates or number plates out of steel and mounted a kill switch on left side plate. The bike uses original key and switch which is tucked under air filters. The bike starts easy and on the first kick. It has a lot of power and shifts smooth. Idles perfectly with zero smoke. Is a blast to ride. Also, the speedo was calibrated when built to original miles which reads under 5000. Here is a very nice 1980 Yamaha xs650 I bought to chop but after getting it cleaned up decided to keep original, Everything works and ready to ride. Pretty much all original except for I had the tank professionally painted, new chain guard from Mikes xs, and new tank badges from Mikes xs. The bike runs perfectly with no noises or smoke. Lots of power and shifts great. The tires have some weather checking but have held air since I`ve owned Check out my other xs650 I have listed. Sure there is more but pics tell story My camera stinks so bike looks much better in person. Ask all questions before bidding. Buyer to pay in cash upon pickup. Will ship at buyers responsibility.
