Starting in 2002 new Victory models will benefit from a redesigned version of the company´s proven 1507cc v-twin. The new mill, dubbed the ´Freedom,´ makes 25 percent more horsepower and is 10 percent more fuel-efficient than the engine it replaces. An evolution of the eight-valve single overhead cam V-twin introduced in 1997, the Freedom motor features a compression ratio bump from 8.5:1 to 9.2:1, deeper fins on the cylinders and heads, and a revised cooling system. Victory´s signature 92-cubic-inch displacement remains unchanged. In addition to the mechanical changes, Victory claims that their new Visteon fuel injection and engine management system makes for easier starting, better throttle response and improved drivability. Visually, the deeper fins give the engine a cleaner, more sculpted look.
