I bought this bike new in spring of 1978. The mufflers were the first thing to be replaced. I installed a kirker system, well even a kirker can't last forever. It now has a chrome system I found on Ebay. Imagen that! Next was the seat. This time I found a seat kit at JC Whitney and the handle bars. Well even JC Whitney vinyl won't last forever, so I had it recovered with leather. Yes it is beginning to show some age. Next, Sport fairings were becoming popular, and I found a company called Greer sport fairings, or something like that. I called them and asked if they had one for the xs1100. They said they had not fit one to the xs1100 yet, but they thought their Kawasaki mount would work. They offered to send me the mount and let me test fit it, and if it fit let them know and we would get together on the rest. Well it fit, so I guess I have the only XS1100 with a greer sport fairing! Sense the bike looked sporty, I thought it needed new shocks. So I installed Fox Shox. The right one is leaking now. I also installed progressive front springs. and not to long ago the front fork seals were replaced. You may or may not know about the rubber carb mounts. Well they are prone to cracking. Usually the cracks don't go all the way through and cause a vacuum leak, but theses were looking pretty bad so they were replaced 2 - 3 years ago. Those are the high lights from 1978 till today. Now I will try to tell you what you are looking at in the photos. pic 1 looks good, the gold emblems have been replaced. the plastic side panels have been cracked and repaired, only show on the back side pic 1 & 2 & 3 You can see where the side cases stick through the fairing side panels I had to trim the fairing to fit. pic 5 notice the bike still has the center stand pic 6 notice the small rear sig lights and the kerker sticker is from when it had a kerker pic 9 the fairing is not bent I just did not have the handle bars straight pic 12 - 14 details of the gas tank. the top paint is cracking, the pin strips are cracking and cloudy, and where the throdel cable touches the tank on full lock right, paint is damaged pin strips all over are not perfect pic 15 you can see the seat is showing some age pic 17 that is the chrome on the tail lamp, trying to show that there is some rust here and there. pic 18 Fox Shox pic 19 the not leaking shock pic 20 the leaking shock pic 21 - 22 I'm going to estimate the tires are about 1/2 and the front is beginning to show some cracking on the side walls There are a few oil leaks, and it will smoke on start up. The left fuel valve will leak if you move the lever. don't move it and it won't leak.
