A secondary air system similar to the one used on the 1199 Panigale has been introduced in order to optimise operation and reduce combustion cycle variability, without affecting emissions. A controlled flow of clean air is injected into the exhaust pipe, enabling total oxidation of the hot exhaust gases, efficiently cutting hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide levels. The Testastretta 11° engine fitted to the Monster 821 is an exclusive feature of these bikes and its structure has been engineered to be an integral element of the frame. In addition, the air filter and exhaust system have been designed to provide improved torque at low-medium engine speeds. The Testastretta 11° 821 cc engine generates power equal to 82.4 kW (112CV) @ 9,250 rpm and 89.4 Nm (9.1kgm) of torque at 7,750 rpm. Exhaust system The Testastretta 11° 821 engine is combined with a type 2-1-2 exhaust system, which leaves no room for doubt about the performance that the new Monster 821 is capable of unleashing. The engine control unit has a lambda probe for each individual cylinder, guaranteeing delivery of the right amount of fuel, while the stylish vertically stacked cannon silencers are equipped with catalytic converters that ensure compliance with Euro 3 standards. An electronically controlled mid-section adjustment valve optimises exhaust pressure according to engine speed. Service intervals The meticulous design and top-quality materials used for the Monster have allowed amazing results to be achieved. Adjusting the valve clearance is scheduled for every 30,000 km and changing the oil every 15,000 km, increasing service intervals and cutting running costs. These results were made possible by improving combustion efficiency and cutting the operating temperatures of the Testastretta 11° engine.

As such, its architecture has been completely reviewed to ensure the best design in terms of structure, weight distribution and robustness. The cylinders, at a 90Â° angle to each other, are mounted on the crankcase to produce a 21Â° angle between the front cylinder and the horizontal plane. This allows the engine to sit forward, optimizing the distribution of weight between the front and rear ends and achieving the perfect position of the fastening points of the cylinder heads into the monocoque chassis of the 959 Panigale. Essential Desmo During the Superquadro's development the need to control large valves with the extremely precise Desmodromic system prompted engineers to replace the belt drive of previous Superbikes, mounted on the first Ducati Pantah in 1979, with a configuration mixing both chain and gears. This chain drive efficiently synchronizes the crankshaft and camshaft, and thanks to an automatic tensioner, ensures constant reliability and a reduction in routine maintenance costs. Flawless Performance The Superquadro is the most potent twin-cylinder engine on the planet, and in the 959 Panigale it produces a fantastic 157 hp@10,500 rpm, and 107.4 N-m of torque @9,000 rpm. Transmission The 959 Panigale features an advanced six-speed transmission with large diameter gears for superior strength. Features May Include: Compact, Torque-Rich Engine The FZ-07 features an all-new 689cc liquid-cooled, in-line twin cylinder, DOHC, 8-valve engine with fuel injection. This engine has a unique power character. It provides outstanding low- to mid-range torque with very linear throttle response, yet offers strong mid-high rpm pulling power as well. The engine develops up to 50 foot pounds of torque and is designed to maximize riding excitement in the real world. Crossplane Concept This 2-cylinder engine features Yamaha s Crossplane Concept, 270 degree crank that provides linear torque development in response to the rider s throttle input. The FZ-07 s in-line 2-cylinder engine provides linear torque development, smooth torque characteristics and a strong feeling of acceleration in the low- to mid-rpm range along with pulling power that extends to the mid-upper rpm range. The CP2 engine is also light, slim and compact and offers an excellent level of rider/machine communication. Compact Frame Design A new lightweight, diamond-type, backbone high tensile steel frame provides an optimized rigidity balance for light, agile handling and stability. The engine is a stressed member of the chassis, allowing a lighter, more compact main frame design. Sporty Chassis Dimensions The wheelbase, seat height, fuel tank width, rake and other dimensions are all set to work with the qualities of the compact 2- cylinder engine to achieve a sporty, light and neutral handling character. Advanced Instruments A newly designed lightweight, compact, full LCD instrument panel is adopted.
