I purchased the bike from Cross Country BMW in July 2013...I'm the first owner. 2001 Ducati Superbike 996

2001 Ducati Superbike 996, This is a brand new 2001 red 996 with only 21 miles on it. It was ordered by my father in law (together with three other bikes) but my in-laws entered into a messy divorce by the time the bikes arrived. This meant that the bikes were never driven (they were restrained as disputed marital property) and when the divorce was finalized, the bikes came to my mother in law (largely because they had been garaged there and were relatively insignificant in the overall settlement. She had no idea what to do with them so they remained stored in her garage all these years until I finally came up with the brilliant idea that we need to off load them. She could not be bothered so the task has fallen to me. I advertised all four bikes about a month ago on cycle trader etc and was inundated with interest. However, a persistent question was the condition of the bikes. My only response then was that they are in perfect condition because they've been in storage from the day they were delivered brand new. However, it was pointed out to me that there could be significant deterioration even in storage for such a long period of time (even though the bike looks brand new). So I actually sent these bikes to Ducati (Cross Country BMW / Ducati in New Jersey) to be inspected. The verdict - they are in fine condition with no serious storage damage. Ducati did recommend an annual maintenance and it does require a new battery. In addition, Ducati recommended that the rubber piping and belts should be replaced (they're new and functional but given the passage of time rubber hardens and could spring a leak). The total costs of the replacement parts identified by Ducati is around $300, but it would be significantly less if you were to buy them not from the OEM but off ebay or some other source. This is a unique bike - I doubt there is any other "brand new" 996 of the 2001/2002 vintage in existence. I have promised my mother in law I can off load it, and I'm sure this is a true find for a Ducati lover.
