1968 DESERTER MID ENGINE RACE CAR this is the special one. the second series Mid Engine car. No more than 138 were built. It was set up to have a mid-engine VW engine. DO IT THE EASY WAY Buy a dual carb turn key 2110cc 150hp engine ($5,129.00) take it out of the crate and bolt it in. this will give you the performance equal of a 450hp Corvette. Or take a stock 1600 VW engine add a Progressive 32/36 Weber carb and have very nice performance WHAT ELSE included but not shown: two new windshield posts complete VW wiring from a '67 KG used windshieldthe previous owner had started dis-assembly of the body. Pop Rivets need to be replaced and the side pods need some fiberglass repalr. This was set up as a race car with a 5” wind deflector QUICK AND DIRTY wire the car with the provided wiring install the windshield put in some pop rivets put in your turn key engine save the side pods for later add a battery and go driving NOW you have a project that is a driver. presently registered in Vermont car is located in Brooklyn New York The Deserter GS is essentially a race car chassis modified to fit the Deserter Dune Buggy body intended for the Autocross as well as other forms of racing. The combination of a balanced, light, stiff chassis with the fiberglass body proved to be very competitive on the Autocross circuits across America, SCCA track events and even the Pikes Peak hill climb events. The unique GS Kit included: custom tubular chassis, fiberglass floor pan, fiberglass toe box and fiberglass engine cover.Autodynamics race car crew provided creativity and engineering far beyond a typical repair shop. In hindsight, they provided some truly remarkable race cars and dune buggies.IN THE 1960S the sports car guys hated the Deserter GS; it was so fast but looked like a dune buggy. I dont know what the times would be like today, but back in the day a Deserter GS turned a 1:08 at the Lime Roce track and a 289 race Cobra (Chassis 18) turned a 1:04 time. The deserter had a stock Corvair 140 horse engine with a 4bbl carb and the Cobra ran a full race 289. both drivers were serious amateurs. This car last had a VW engine. In as much it is swing axle, it would be no difficulty installing a Corvair engine by flipping the ring gear in the transaxle.SOLD AS IS. CAR IS FOR SALE ELSEWHERE AND WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW THE CAR IF SOLD
