Introduced in the early 2000s when Piaggio returned to the states, the BV200 shared its liquid-cooled, 198cc, SOHC carbureted engine with the Vespa GT200. While the Vespa was considered the prettier sibling, the BV (or Beverly) was the more versatile option. With 16-inch wheels, it handles like a motorcycle and is stable at highway speeds. A tubular frame with plastic fairing (à la sportbikes) made tip-overs a lot less expensive, and accessory hard luggage and a tall windscreen appealed to tourers and commuters. Since it shared its bulletproof engine with the Vespa, maintenance and mechanical issues were few and far between. Disc brakes front and rear, along with a telescopic fork, made the BV function like a "step-through" motorcycle. A low-slung fuel tank and centralized mass contributed to handling.
