1924 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8 Specifications: Year: 1924 Make: Isotta Fraschini Model: Tipo 8 Color: Red/Black Miles: Vehicle Description Founded in 1900, Isotta was known among the most luxurious and prestigious cars ever built. They were early pioneers of the overhead camshaft engine, designed by Giustino Cattaneo. Isotta Fraschini introduced the Tipo 8, the first production automobile to be powered by a straight Eight engine at the Paris Salon in 1919. This Isotta is one of the 600 built . It is chassis #489 and carries its original engine #500. It is one of only 20 surviving Tipo 8's with a LeBaron touring body. Owners of Tipo 8's included Rudolf Valentino, Jack Dempsey, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, and even His Hoiness, the Pope. This particular Isotta has been in only three important collections, including Al Rodeway, Walter Weimer, and the lastly the Johnson Collection in Michigan. The Johnson's toured the car often. In 2014, Brian Joseph, well known Pebble Beach restorer, did mechanical repairs, including relining the clutch, replacing the transmission pilot bearings, cleaning and adjusting the clutch splines, inspecting the brakes and installing new tires.
