Stanley Steamer—Pebble Beach WinnerThis fully-restored 1911 Stanley Steamer is not only great to look at, it also is a blast to drive. A Steamer expert has just gone over the mechanical/steam components of the car confirming that it is top running condition. This is the same Stanley Steamer which won Second in Class at Pebble Beach. Please look at the attached video by opening the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vFmuo8Rzx0&feature=em-upload_owner#action=share A Pebble Beach Restoration When this Stanley Steamer was sold by Bonhams, they described the car’s provenance as follows: “Chassis no. 6076 was bought prior to World War I by a Mr. Fodor from a Stanley dealer in Norwalk, CT. and although its subsequent history is not fully listed it remained in preservation until the 1990’s when a comprehensive restoration was embarked upon. The model was fully researched through analysis of the best examples extant and through interviews and meetings with the most respected Stanley authorities. The oversight of the restoration was entrusted to noted restorers, Paul Russell & Co., with a brief to restore the car in exacting detail as closely as possible to original specification. This restoration took place in the Summer of 1997. Coachwork was entrusted to Mark Herman, boiler to Don Bourdon, upholstery to Mike Curley and plumbing assistance was given by Charlie Johnson. The car was prepared for Pebble Beach and shown there in 1997 and awarded 2nd in Class. The Toy Tonneau body was refinished in Brewster Green, with yellow wooden spoked wheels and chassis details, and the car correctly equipped with gas headlamps and kerosene auxiliary lighting. The four passenger seats were reupholstered to original pattern in black leather and the top recovered. In short no stone was left unturned to ensure that 6076 was and is presented as closely as possible to the specification and condition in which it left the Stanley production line in Newton, Massachusetts. Subsequent to its presentation at Pebble Beach, this car successfully competed in the ‘Steaming Through The Rockies’ rally in 1998, completing the tour without difficulty and demonstrating itself equally suited to use on the rally and show circuit.” Great Looking This 1911 Stanley looks like it just came out of the showroom back in 1911:Paint and ChromeFully restored in Dark Green and Black with a yellow and pinstriped undercarriage, this Steamer looks as new. The paint is in virtually perfect condition. Interior The interior upholstery was all redone in black leather, and looks, feels and smells as new. The new door panels are excellent as well. The dash and all of the gauges are in excellent cosmetic condition. Engine The steam boiler works properly and has just been thoroughly gone over to ensure it operates correctly. Nothing is more fun than hearing the chug-chug of this vehicle going down the road or its air whistle. Transmission/controls This Steamer runs properly in forward and reverse, and all of the controls operate properly. Chassis The underside is virtually as clean as the exterior. It is painted sunshine yellow and has pinstriping on the front and rear. Likewise, the spoke wheels, all in excellent condition, are painted yellow with pinstriping. Comfort featuresBack in 1911 there weren’t many creature comforts in automobiles, but those that were available are all first class on this Steamer. The leather upholstery of both the front and rear seats is supple and in excellent condition. The convertible top looks like new. They Don’t Get Any Nicer than this Stanley!! Fully-restored and of museum quality, you won’t find a nicer Stanley Steamer than this one. Whether intended for your “to look at” collection or as a vehicle that you plan to show/drive, this car has you covered on both fronts. And, just in case the rain sneaks up on you, the Cobra has windshield wipers—but no heater or defroster. These were intended to be true sports cars! Engine The cars V-8 is a fuel injected Ford 5.0 that sits nestled in a clean engine bay. The engine is enhanced with an Edelbrock upper and lower intake manifold, BBK exhaust headers, Accell Billetech ignition, Billet pulleys, 30lb injectors and a BBK cold air intake. Transmission/Rear The 5-speed transmission is a Tremec and it shifts like new. The rear end is a Ford Ultimate 8.8 LPW. Tires, Brakes, Safety and Monitoring Systems This car has Cobra Mustang 5-spoke wheels mounted with Z speed-rated Avon tires—245/45ZR17s on the front and 275/40ZR17s on the rear. The large footprint of the tires help harness the engines torque and deliver it to the rear wheels. The 4-wheel disc brakes bring the car to a straight and quick stop without pulling or shuddering. All of the gauges (speedometer, tach, , temp, oil pressure, gas) work properly, as do the safety equipment (lights, turn signals, horn, wipers). As mentioned, this is a "drivers car" and accordingly has neither heater/defrosters or a convertible top. The car has Simpson racing seatbelts to keep the driver and passenger firmly in place as this car does what it was made for: go and stop fast and to assist with that mission, this Cobra is equipped with AC race pedals. Assuming you can hear it over the roar of the engine, this Cobra has a Sony unit with AM/FM/CD/MP3 and Polk speakers! as well. produced!Built in the shadow of the legendary and long defunct Brooklands race track, this 1985 Autokraft AC MkIV Cobra is one of only 300 built by the tiny company founded by Brian Angliss, a career Shelby restoration expert and aftermarket parts manufacturer. Angliss picked up the pieces of AC Cars, the company whose Ace sports car was the foundation of Carroll Shelby's original Cobra. In 1981 AC gave Autokraft not only the original Cobra chassis jig and the original bucks for hand shaping the aluminum bodywork; it also gave Autokraft the rights to the AC trademark. Autokraft gained another ally in Ford, who agreed to sell the Mark IV through selected dealers, making it the first non-Ford sold from their showrooms since the Pantera. Re-engineered and improved to meet U.S. safety and emissions requirements, the Mark IV is still pure Cobra, from its Ford 5.0L Carburetor V-8 and 5-speed to the Salisbury IRS rear end.
