Aprilia,BMW, Ducati, MV Agusta dealer, In Odessa, FL. We also specialize in late model clean used bikes! Pre-Owned 1967 BMW R27 Black & White Pinstripes This price will be good till end of listing only. The bike is in ORIGINAL condition (see pics)!!! [please see photos] OVERVIEW: The last single-cylinder shaft-drive BMW motorcycle ever made was the relatively powerful and elegant R27, a 250cc OHV vertical single with the only rubber-mounted thumper engine BMW ever produced. The engine pumped out 18 horsepower, the highest ever for a shaft-drive BMW single. BMW manufactured 15,364 R27s over the production years of 1960 through 1966 (some of the 1966 R27s were sold as 1967 models). The vast majority of R27 motorcycles exported to the United States by BMW were black with white pinstriping. BMW never did run with the crowd and always struck out on its own path. This is evident in its R27. Its enclosed shaft final drive is extremely rare for a thumper, of course. But it also had a triangulated Earles (named after English designer Ernest Earles) front fork; so the motorcycle had a front swingarm as well as a rear swingarm. When you squeezed the front brake lever hard not only did the front end not dive, it actually rose slightly. Thus, braking was a very steady activity, though the brakes were weak by today’s standards. The R27 engine’s crankshaft was laid out fore-to-aft, not side- to-side; also a rare feature. This way, the crank and the final shaft were in line, and drive forces did not have to be run through a set of 90-degree gears. Also, the kick starter swung out sideways instead of parallel to the frame, so kick starting an R27 is a rather easy and danger-free affair. If you have any questions, or would like to fill out a credit app. please call 1-813-926-9937 We are open 5 days a week. Here is your chance to buy an very nice, original, low mile machine. I bought this bike the summer of 2013. AT that time it needed a new muffler and tires and tubes. Since I had the wheels off I removed the bearings and glass beaded the hubs, then gave them a good stainless steel wire brushing to bring them back to their original factory appearance. Then the bearing assemblies were carefully re-shimmed to factory specs. New heidenau tires and new tubes were then put on the freshly polished original aluminum weimann rims. This bike has the original dual seat. The striping has been waxed to the point of some of it disappearing due to the abrasives in the wax. The paint does have the patina of a nearly 50 year old rider. In the time I've owned this bike it's put about 500 smiles on me. It has never let me down and always behaved as a BMW should. This bike will cruise at 55 mph or more but at 250cc it's happier at 34-45 mph. The tire pump is standard on the bike but the tool kit is not present unfortunately. This machine is being offered only because I liked it so much I'm restoring 2 others and have found a newer, lower mileage example and don't need 4 ( or do I ?)lol. ALL the pictures were taken today , September 7th, 2015 after a quick bath, and show the bike as it currently is. Battery was new in 2013 and at that time I replaced the standard U.S. bars with low, sidecar handlebars as I prefer them. Overseas sales are welcome but any and all shipping arrangements are your responsibility no matter who purchases this bike. thanks for looking and check out our other interesting bikes.

This is a lot of bike for the money. It is in exceptional condition for its age and runs excellent. 1978 R100RS. I believe I am the 3rd owner but do not know the history prior to the person I purchased it from. The frame VIN does fall within the range of MotorSport models but I don't know if this was one originally. It does have the correct black side covers for a MotorSport. The engine VIN is 6160368 which I believe is a 1977 1000cc big carb engine and runs excellent! In fact it is probably the best running/strongest BMW I have owned. Very fast and smooth. Shifts through gears as it should. It does not show any signs of abuse or being parked outside in the elements. Gauges are clean and not faded or discolored. It has been painted all white at some point and the paint is in very good condition. Fairing doesn't show any signs of previous damage. Here is the good, the bad, and the ugly: GOODExceptional condition for a 41 year old motorcycleGauges work properly and look excellent- not faded or discoloredCables are all good and not crackedEverything works as it should- all switches, lights, alarm, hornStarts instantly, choke works as it shouldRuns excellent- NO smoke at start, doesn't use oil, seems to be a low mile/strong motor, very clean Tank inside is very clean, no problems/rustWindscreen is in excellent conditionWheels are in excellent conditionNo oil leaksNo fuel leaks- all hoses replaced recently Original manual is hereOriginal tire pump is hereNo dents in tank or front fenderAll plastic- headlight cover, turn signal, brake light, all very nice. BADThe tires are about 5 years old, tread is good and there are no weather cracks, I personally do not ride on tires over 6 years old.Pin striping is not correctExhaust has some scratches and minor dings.Missing "R100RS" sticker on rear cowlingOne keyThrottle cable and choke boots missing at carbsBottom of seat is par/average for age- originalRubber around tool storage tub top Is in bad shapeMost tools- not complete set UGLYThe seat has a small tear that has been repairedThe rear seat hinge is broke where it connects to the seat I have listed in detail everything I know about the bike to help you evaluate if this bike is for you. I am brutally honest and I am also very picky.I assure you this is a very accurate and thorough description. You will have NO surprises. In the past couple of years I have sold 7 motorcycles (4 were "70's" era BMW's) The buyers have always told me without exception, the bike was better than they expected. This is the way it should be. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or if you want pictures of anything specific. I would be happy to do a "FaceTime" to help you make your decision.I have a video of starting the bike and doing a walk around so you can hear it run. Link below. About Me | See my other items | Email A Friend Description of [1964 BMW R27 Dover White Thumper for sale] For sale or trade vintage survivor, everyday runner, 1964 BMW R27 "Thumper". This model with triple matching vin# and in Dover White color is getting constantly rare and is believed to be one of the best vintage single cylinder machine produced by the BMW. This numbers matching, cosmetically original ( still has pinstriper initial under the tank), totally mechanically serviced, and sound BMW R27 clocks only 9K miles. This cycle has recently had top end re-sealed with new gaskets and seals. It starts easily and runs great. Motorcycle is a survivor quite cosmetically challenged condition as it has never been restored in any way except some touch-ups here and there. Matching triple serial numbers, original Dover White paint, Denfeld Dual seats and more......... This particular example is beautiful with many additions a real BMW enthusiast will appreciate. Ride as is or restore to pristine condition. Some history of the above mentioned motorcycle: "The BMW R 27 was manufactured on Sept. 1st of 1964 and was delivered to Butler & Smith in New York on the 21st of December 1964. The bike was equipped with a bench seat." "Based largely on the R26, in 1960 the R27 added rubber mounts for the engine and boosted power to 18 hp (13 kW). The R27's 250 cc vertical single was the only rubber-mounted thumper engine BMW ever produced, and was their last shaft drive single-cylinder motorcycle. The engine pumped out 18 hp (13 kW), the highest ever for a shaft-drive BMW single. BMW manufactured 15,364 R27 models (engine numbers 372 001 -- 387 566 ) over the production years of 1960 to 1966. Some of the 1966 R27 models were sold as 1967 models because dealers in those years often would assign dates to BMW motorcycles when they sold them, and not necessarily when they were manufactured. The vast majority of R27 motorcycles exported to the United States by BMW were black with white pinstriping. A few, however, were brought in by importer Butler & Smith in a color called Dover white, with black pinstriping. Why "Dover white?" Butler & Smith head honcho, Michael Bondy, had a 1942 Packard automobile in an off-white color called dover white. Bondy sent a sample of this color to BMW AG in Munich and asked that it be duplicated. BMW did copy the color, and Bondy ordered fifty motorcycles in that color. Today, BMW motorcycles in original dover white are a sought-after rarity. BMW did things differently from other manufacturers. This is evident in the R27. Its enclosed shaft final drive is rare for a single cylinder motorcycle. But it also had a triangulated Earles front fork (named after English designer Ernest Earles); so the motorcycle had a front swingarm as well as a rear swingarm. When you squeezed the front brake lever hard not only did the front end not dive, it actually rose slightly. Thus, braking was a very steady activity, though the brakes were weak by today's standards. The engines crankshaft was laid out fore-to-aft, not side- to-side; also a rare feature. This way, the crank and the final shaft were in line, and drive forces did not have to be run through a set of 90-degree gears. Also, the kick starter swung out sideways instead of parallel to the frame, so kick starting an R27 is a rather easy and danger-free affair." Some history of the above mentioned motorcycle: The BMW R 27 was manufactured on Sept. 1st of 1964 and was delivered to Butler & Smith in New York on the 21st of December 1964. The bike was equipped with a bench seat. Based largely on the R26, in 1960 the R27 added rubber mounts for the engine and boosted power to 18 hp (13 kW). Also, the kick starter swung out sideways instead of parallel to the frame, so kick starting an R27 is a rather easy and danger-free affair.
