Up for sale is a 1965 Sportster XLH, one of only 955 made that year. I've had this bike about 7 yrs., I'm moving and a couple of them have to go. It's a nice example of that year and the first year of 12 volt electrics. This is also a pretty original one with the engine in the original chassis with no welds or cracks in the engine. As you can see there are some external things like pipes, air cleaner, speedo, etc that can easily be changed back if you're looking to make a museum piece out of it. Things that have been done to it are: Cylinders bored to .050 w/new pistons/rings, new valve job, rockers totally rebuilt. A set of cast iron body lightened racing tappets from a super CH with PB cams. A new Barnett wet or dry clutch, direct drive engine sprocket. Distributor replaced with a magneto which has 2 keys and a kill switch on the handlebar, rear chain and both sprockets are new. Totally rewired, front wheel has a new aluminum rim and stainless spokes. The gas tank has been cleaned and relined. I could go on about new and replaced, but it's basically a 60's hot rod style Sportster and something that will increase in value. At the end of auction a $250 non-refundable deposit is required through paypal. I can accept the remainder in money order, personal check, cashiers check or cash. I only ask one thing and that is to please make all payment and shipping arrangements early so the transaction goes smoothly. Ask any questions you have through my messages. Sold as is.

1965 Harley Sportster" Competition Hot" Project Bike. Has a special construction AZ title & blue vin sticker. Not the original engine so the vin had to be changed, pre-numbered frame. The engine number was the old vin number. What you see is what you get, missing a few parts (ie key, exhaust, speedo, kick stand & maybe more). Engine has compression and turns over. Kick-start only. Was told the bike ran when it was parked. Been sitting for a long, long time (barn find). Broken clutch lever, timing retard and throttle cable ran inside of the handlebars. Inside of gas tank is super clean This bike needs a complete overhaul and turned into a rat bike.

New rims, spokes, and wheel bearings were installed and new drive shaft couples were also installed. The carbs were fully serviced, the engine was tuned, and new tires were installed. New foot peg rubbers and handlebars were installed as well. We are installing new head pipes to clean up the exhaust and everything has been cleaned, painted, bead blasted, or polished. The bike is in beautiful condition and runs very well.

I love early sportsters....and by the calendar, I may be getting old....(class of 69!).......but put me on an early ironhead and I'm feeling like 18. I have owned and built many of these, (and other makes too) and this is my latest creation......I built this bike from an ex-show bike from the seventies. The bike came to me after decades in storage. Being the curious type, I pulled the top end of the motor to have a look. Inside it showed great promise for building my idea of an XLR style bike for the street. The pistons were marked +.20 and there was still crosshatch marks in the cylinders. The parts mic’d within factory specs, so a hone job and new rings was what it needed. The valves and guides are original, and had very little play, so I hand lapped them to see how the seats and valve pattern looked. The valves all matched with a beautiful pattern so it was looking good so far! The rods felt nice and tight, both upper and lower end. Back together it went.Since the original sportster sheet metal was no longer with the bike, I used a later sixties gas tank and cutdown fender. The motor sounds and runs great. I used a Bendix carb, since that is my favorite choice on these bikes. I had a fairly fresh generator, and added a solid state regulator to make the charging system ready to go.Now for some details…..the motor has oem vin stamps, and the title is in my name. Belly numbers match. A date-coded 1965 uncut frame and the nicest set of early forks I have seen in years make for a bike that could be easily restored to stock if you so desire. It has an FL side stand, and the original frame tab is there if you want to chang it back to a stock side stand. All my research makes me believe the exhaust pipes are real XLR pieces. Tires are new Firestone ANS 400x19 front and 450x18 rear (from Coker tire) .. Wheel assys are proper date coded for the year of the bike. Spokes have surface rust. I freshened up the magneto, and it has been a “two kick” bike when cold…..one when hot.I took the liberty of showing my passion for early sportsters by showing a pic of five previous sportsters I have owned and built. I have had many more, but you get the idea. Also a pic of an XLR that got me excited in building a similar street version XLCHI do have some extra 1965 parts that I have collected, and you have first choice if you need them to restore it to stock configuration. We can work that out easily.I do all the work myself, only farming out machine shop work to a trusted friend in the business. The bike is ready to ride. I will be headed from Daytona Beach to Michigan around July and can transport it free to any I75 exit along the way. Other shipping gets my “hands on” help.Overseas buyers are welcome to buy it. I have shipped bikes around the world and can guide you through that process if you have never done it. Either way, everybody gets my complete focus and help.Check my feedback, and you will see I take Ebay sales very seriously. I want happy buyers. Any questions or requests are welcome….just ask.....I reserve the right to end this sale early, since it is for sale locally. Steve cellphone 386 235 7940
VERY RARE Sportster XL-APRICE LOWEREDFrom 1970 to 1980 Harley made six models: 2G = XLT 3A = XLH 4A = XLCH 4E = XLS 7F = XLCR 4D = XLA (A = Military) The last two pictures are what an XL-A looks like Please note, XL-A’s were made specifically for the military up until 1965. Starting 1966 the XL-A’s were made only AFTER the military special ordered one. This bike has a matching engine and frame number # 4D52301H2 You can get information about how many of each model was produced, EXCEPT the XLA. Harley-Davidson will not give any information about Military bikes because of the Government’s confidential rules and regulations. I was told that less than 50 were made for the Military. They were used primarily for parades and escorts. They were ridden and used for parts to keep others running and then scrapped. This is the only survivor I have found other than a 1969 XLA a couple of years ago. This bike does not run. It was taken completely apart in preparation for restoration. I purchased the bike in a “Basket” I have assembled the bike to show it in its basic form and to roll. I have not put all the parts back on the bike. I have a picture of all the parts I have for the bike. (I’m told that it has the wrong carburetor.) All the wiring has been removed but included. The motor turns over freely but needs a complete overhaul. The bike also is in need of a total restoration. Once finished and done right this bike could be a priceless museum piece. The bike has a clear North Carolina Title. It has been signed off by the previous owner and notarized. My name is listed as the “first Re-Assignment” The bike has recorded mileage of 15.342 I’m getting a lot of different opinions about the value of this bike. I really don’t know the value of this bike in its present condition. It is for a collector. I think somewhere around $15,000 when finished. The auction has a buy now price of best offer. If you want it, you should make an offer ASAP An opportunity like this doesn’t come along very often. The bike is in Walnut, CA. (far eastern area of Los Angeles) and is available for inspection anytime. SHIPPING: $500 West Coast $600 Mid West $700 East Coast Out of Country buyers Welcome Questions please call Stuart 909 239-6199
