1971 Very Rare Alta

In the early 1970's, the British company Alta produced about 70 motorcycles, of which about 6 were exported to North America. This is one of those six. It has a nickel plated frame that carries oil for the oil injection system, and a Suzuki 175cc 5 speed engine. It is owned by the original owner. It was used by his wife around the back yard (really!) and a few times on the trails in northern lower Michigan. For medical reasons, the family stopped riding and the bike was stored in the garage for the last 35 years. The fuel system has been cleaned out and it starts and runs. Alta was a small British sports car manufacturer that built racing cars from 1929 to 1953. In about 1970, the family started building trials motorcycles with nickel plated frames and Suzuki engines. They were sold as a parts kit to avoid significant taxes. After a couple of years, the tax loophole was closed, they lost their pricing advantage, and stopped making them.
