vintagemunro Store I'm listing this machine for a long-time customer and good friend... Iconic and rare, the P11 was built for the export market; primarily to the western US, where trail riding and desert racing was huge. American Bob Blair of ZDS Motors shoe-horned an Atlas twin engine into the Matchless G85CS frame, forks etc and sent it to the Norton folks at Plumstead as a prototype for a Norton that would blow away Triumph’s TR6C. Although it was a time consuming assembly, the newly created 745cc P11, P11a and Ranger were sold to the export scrambler market for two years and were a success not only for the struggling Norton financially but won the Mojave Desert racing titles for the two years they were produced. The market loved the styling and as such, the P11 influenced the new S Type that followed. The 1967 P11 had the upswept pipes and the 1968 P11A sported low pipes with upswept silencers. As was the way back in the day, motorcycles were dated in the year sold rather than the year produced. Hence this one is a ‘68 P11A. P11s had an Atlas twin 745cc engine with twin 930 concentric carbs, an alternator, cast alloy chain case and an AMC gearbox. This was fitted into the Matchless G85CS frame and came complete with AMC gaitered forks, AMC hubs and 7” brakes. They weighed 388 lbs, 52.5HP @ 6400 rpm and could top out at 105mph. Noted Canadian restoration expert Tim Bardsley restored this superb machine in the style of the P11; adding the rear sub-frame, seat, tail light, exhaust, etc and painting the bike in the P11 style. Tim’s high-quality and attention to detail is clearly evident in the hi-resolution images on my Flickr Album. To view the full-sized images on Flickr, click on the icon on the lower right of any image page and you'll be able to download or view all sizes. This matching number P11A was started, tested and carefully decommissioned for showroom display by the current owner. vintagemunro Store I'm listing this machine for a long-time customer and good friend... This DB1SR is quite possibly one of only two still in their original shipping crates. When the current owner received this bike, he raised the crate top off the platform for only the second time since its departure from Rimini, Italy; the first time being at Canada Custom when it first arrived in our country. It's still mounted to the crate base and still shows some floor dust on the tires from the manufacturer wheeling it across the floor to be crated. The current owner simply couldn't bear to have this beautiful Italian gem hidden in the crate, so he carefully removed the top and packaging so the bike could be displayed still strapped to the base. The crate top and packaging have been carefully stored. In 1987 only 153 DB1SR motorcycles were made - and of these, most went to Japan. Although I've seen a pair of the later SR Serie Finale in North America, I've not seen one of these on our shores. This amazing piece of performance art was originally imported by the legendary Frank Romanelli - who indicated that this unit was destined for the market in France and should by all accounts, not have been directly exported to Canada. The '87 DB1SR was a high-performance version of the base DB1 and upgraded DB1S; powered by a full Montjuich-spec motor (41mm carbs, "P" cams, free-flowing exhaust) and also featuring 4-Piston Brembo GP calipers and super-rare, first generation Brembo radial front brake pump as well as the gorgeous Marvic/Akront composite rims also used on the Ducati 750 F1 Montjuich and Santa Monica. The result; 15 more HP or 80HP @ 9200 rpm, a continuous torque band from 3-10K, Top speed around 142mph and quarter miles in the 11’s on a 352lbs exotic package that offered amazing handling. But you'll probably never experience it the way the designer intended - an incredibly rare, completely unmolested example like this is likely destined to spend the rest of its life on display. vintagemunro Store I'm listing this machine for a long-time customer and good friend... An immaculate and fine running, low mileage example of the '72 Shovelhead! As the story goes this bike was part of a large collection in Texas; where this 1972 Harley Davidson FLH Shovel Head to underwent a complete restoration. It is the current owner’s understanding and belief that the 9,900 miles on the odometer are original as the condition of some of the original parts he has examined with expert Harley mechanics support the mileage shown on the clock. He’s had many experts hear the engine running and they all concur it is one of the smoothest shovels they have ever heard. This matching number bike has the majority of its original parts; and underwent a restoration while under the previous owner's care. The machine was dismantled, the frame blasted and powder coated, bodywork repainted in the correct starburst purple, the seat reupholstered, rims, spokes, tires, all fasteners, cables, hoses and fittings renewed. The original owner was told that the engine was well within specification and that it was reassembled with new gaskets, seals etc. The bike was sold to the current owner with 9,952 miles; stated by the seller as being original. It now shows 9,954 and will likely show a few more as it's ridden occasionally. This was the first year of the front disk brake. As far as we can tell it is all original with the exception of the front disk brake assembly (chrome caliper holder). We're not not sure if they are correct for the '72, but those luggage hard bags (correct model) look perfect for the machine.. The current owner keeps this bike in running order and starts it regularly. It’s ridden occasionally and then lovingly detailed back to the condition you see in the pics. To get a full appreciation for just how clean this machine is, please check out the detailed hi-resolution pics on my Flickr page. vintagemunro Store I'm listing this machine for a long-time customer and good friend... From a 1951 sales brochure: “Among experts, this two cylinder motorcycle is called ‘A work of art in metal.’ ” The R51/3 is the second large displacement post war motorcycle that BMW was allowed to produce after the war. Produced for four years, the model was targeted at the sport solo market and was well-review by the press back in the day. This matching number example has been meticulously and accurately restored – and has had very little running time since the restoration. Rare and beautiful, it has the one-year-only front brake hub (full width brakes 7.9”), aluminum rims and correct saddle. As was the case with later ‘54s, this one has the brake light switch assembly. It’s a fine running machine that has been carefully prep’d for storage and display in the current owner’s collection. The high standard to which this machine has been restored and preserved is clearly evident in the hi-resolution images on my Flickr Album. vintagemunro Store I'm listing this machine for a long-time customer and good friend... This gorgeous Norton / AJS Special is the creative vision and detailed mechanical masterwork of multi-championship winning roadracer and master-builder Ron Peter. A build that took several years, started with a Norton featherbed frame and an AJS 18CS engine with 1 3/8” Amal GP carburetor. The machine features a wealth of handmade custom pieces on this bike that blend so well into the fit, finish and overall character of this build. Top-shelf components include: Roadholder forks, handsome Manx replica alloy fuel tank, fairing and seat, custom instrument panel with Smith racing tach, custom toothed belt drive from crankshaft to generator. Note the nice integration of the powerful Suzuki GT750 4LS front drum brake. Although this is a fine running, well-sorted piece, the bike has very few miles on it and looks as perfect as the day Ron finished it. The special has been correctly prepped for storage in the owner’s climate-controlled showroom. This AJS Norton Special was featured in Cycle Canada’s June 2001 edition. Ron has had other builds featured such as his Triumph Bonneville in the Cycle Canada July 1997 edition. vintagemunro Store I'm listing this machine for a long-time customer and good friend... The Norton Commando, a Norton-Villiers motorcycle was launched by the Norton Motorcycle Company in 1967 as a 750cc OHV, pre unit parallel twin. The 1971 Fastback model with its iconic styling via the rear tail piece also featured the isolastic vibration control system and twin leading shoe front drum brake. This is another pristine example of a total restoration by noted Norton expert Ron Baillie of Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada. Ron’s attention to detail and the extensive level to which he restores Norton’s mechanically and cosmetically has recently been recognized in a front cover feature article in Motorcycle Classics. Read more about Ron’s work. Ron will routinely salvage and refinish original parts if perfect. All other parts are sourced in the UK and of the highest quality available. The Smiths instrument is the original (refurbished) it shows 9962 miles - which was on the original bike before rebuild. There are zero miles on this new restoration. In addition to the work performed by Baillie (see an image of his sumary in the listing pics), the current owner purchased and installed two brand new Amal 932 carbs.
