AIRBOX The airbox design, featuring new snorkels, offers maximum protection of the air filter against soiling, while ensuring maximum airflow in a quiet way. The new, large Twin Air filter is mounted in a stiff cage, which at the same time holds the system in place. This design is so simple; you can pop a fresh one in with a face full of mud - without tools and in seconds. FUEL TANK The lightweight polyethylene tank has a capacity of 2.5 gallons. You will always be able to see how much fuel remains at a glance, thanks to the see-through plastic. By pushing the orange release button in the center of the filler cap, the bayonet mechanism makes refueling quick and easy. The 4-stroke models are fitted with an integrated fuel pump system and an additional fuel level sensor. Additionally, the fuel line features a 90° connector to the tank for better protection against damage. EXHAUST Noise limits are a real challenge for every manufacturer. Therefore, KTM has put a lot of effort into the development of its exhaust systems. All 4-strokes are fitted with new header pipes and a shorter silencer, mounted as close to the engine as possible. This means more power, extra mass centralization and better rideability. An advanced internal design reduces the noise sufficiently in order to sit safely below the noise limit, while still providing the engine response and performance that is expected from a KTM. WHEELS The EXC s wheels feature lightweight, CNC machined hubs and high-end Giant rims guaranteeing maximum stability at minimum weight. The wheels are fitted with the Continental TKC 80 tires perfect for surefooted performance off-road and stability on-road. Combining low weight and high displacement, high-tech SOHC (single overhead camshaft) 4-stroke technology is the right choice for all riders that are looking for maximum four-stroke performance, combined with playful handling for the E2 and E3 classes. These power-houses are without a doubt the benchmarks in their classes. Features May Include: ENGINE Developed for dual sport, the SOHC engine with 510.4cc is distinguished by an extremely compact design, easy maintenance and excellent durability at a minimal weight. Together with the Keihin EFI system, the 500 EXC provides unrivaled enduro-specific performance and rideability. ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM The Engine Management System by Keihin with electronic fuel injection and a 42mm throttle body delivers a spontaneous response and maximum engine performance. An oil-cooled 196W AC alternator provides sufficient energy for the fuel injection, lighting and other electrical loads. DDS CLUTCH The one-piece basket of the DDS clutch (damped diaphragm steel) is machined from solid high-tensile steel in one solid part together with the primary drive gear. This process guarantees unbeatable reliability and, together with the thin steel linings, contributes to the narrow engine width due to a compact rivet-less design. The diaphragm spring makes it possible to implement an additional rubber damping system inside the clutch hub, ensuring reliability for the transmission and excellent traction. Finally, the hydraulic clutch mechanism by Brembo in conjunction with the diaphragm spring provides a very light clutch operation and controllable modulation. PISTON The lightweight, forged bridged box-type piston shares its high performance piston rings with the 450 SX-F. SUSPSENSION/DAMPING The EXC models feature WP suspension, which is specifically designed for dual sport riding and ensures maximum traction comprised with plenty of comfort. As expected, the compression and rebound damping can be adjusted to suit various conditions and rider preference as well as separate high and low speed shock compression adjustments. COOLING SYSTEM The proven integrated KTM cooling system routes the coolant from the cylinder head through the frame triangle directly to the aluminium radiators made by WP. A radiator fan is standard equipment for the big displacement 500 EXC.
