I ve forgotten what a sportbike is because I just rode the 2017 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT. It thinks it s a sportbike, but it doesn t look like a sportbike. KTM doesn t claim it to be a sportbike, yet it does everything that a rider would ever ask from a sportbike but with bags. In strict motorcycle enthusiast vernacular, the new Super Duke GT is, of course, a sport-touring bike. It has those hard bags. It has heated grips. It has a handlebar, not clip-ons. It has a reasonable passenger pad and cruise control. It knows to use an alternative damping range for added weight when a passenger is on the bike. But it also has 173 horsepower, traction control, a quickshifter, and modes for Sport riding and Sport suspension. It also goes very fast, really easily.
