At the heart of the new Prairie 300 is an air-cooled four-stroke, single overhead cam engine based on Kawasaki's highly-developed Bayou® ATV. The Bayou engine was selected due to its proven reliability and durability, which is backed up by Kawasaki's warranty claims records during the past several years. Engine performance has been increased with a modified cam profile, altered valve timing, a new ignition curve, increased compression ratio from 8.6:1 to 9.0:1 and a lighter piston. The engine has been tilted forward an additional five degrees to give the Prairie 300 ATV increased ground clearance. And both crankcase halves and the cylinder head are completely new castings. The 2000 Kawasaki Prairie 300 ATV is easy to ride and features superior off-road performance and lightweight handling characteristics, high-quality construction, refined styling and class-leading power and utility.
