The Kawasaki KLR 650 is probably the most popular Dual Sport bike on the planet because of its ability to do so many things . The bike has been in Kawasaki's lineup since 1987 and in 2008 the second generation KLR hit the streets with many updates and improvements . I have personally 2 of these versatile motorcycles , a Gen 1 and and Gen 2, and while both are great bikes , the Gen 2 KLR 650 got all the right changes . A bigger , more aerodynamic fairing , which for Adventure Touring or commuting is much better . They improved the suspension with bigger forks and a better shock . The brakes are much better , the swingarm , the seat and just overall fit and finish is noticeably better . The heart of the KLR is a proven and very durable and reliable liquid - cooled , single cylinder , 650 cc motor . These bikes can go just about anywhere you want to go . If you need one bike to do a little bit of everything and be your Swiss Army knife , this it . Fill up your 5.8 gallons of fuel and take off , The KLR sits upright and is very comfortable for a daily commute or a long trip . Fire roads and Jeep trails are a blast on the KLR , she is no single tracker or a mudder , but i have seen them go all over the world and in some of the worst places imaginable . This 2012 KLR has a nice set of Barkbusters handguards , SW-Motech engine / fairing protectors , a skid plate and a very useful centerstand . It does have a little damage on the left upper fairing , but that usually comes with the territory on Dual Sporters .
