Handling is fairly well controlled for the cruiser class but a bit of wallowing can be felt in high speed sweepers. the Vulcan 1500 Classics are solid machines with an excellent history of reliability. the derision given the Vulcan 1500 Classic in its early years was limited to those who found fault with its derivative styling sometimes referring to it as a Harley clone. Battery charging was increased from 12 volts-14Ah to a 12-18Ah unit self-canceling turn signals were introduced and the floorboards were moved back for a more neutral riding position. It has a visually balanced and elegant appearance nailing the aesthetic appeal of classic American cruisers from the 1950's era. In 2000 an additional optional version of the 1500 Classic was introduced the Vulcan 1500FI. Given the broad range of upgrades the Classic 1500FI is a notably better bike out of the box while the carburetor Version a good blank canvass for customizing projects. the Vulcan 1500 Classics are very comfortable machines no extreme human horseshoe ergonomics here and make great touring mounts. With the 1500 Classic Kawasaki began a line of cruisers that continues to the present that have blended elegant styling with superior engineering and performance all offered at affordable prices compared to the competition. the most obvious difference was the fuel injection given to the motor which improved power and throttle response but the FI model had additional changes including a bump in compression from 8.6:1 to 9.0:1 a change in cam timing and piston pin offset and the inclusion of a new ECU. They are bargains at new prices and fantastic deals can be found on used machines. the motor and stock exhaust give off a pleasant deep rumbling soundtrack and vibration is limited to a distant throb. Acceleration leads with a stiff torque inspired punch but fails to deliver a horse-powered follow up. While those sour tongued jingoistic types could find fault with unoriginal styling they could not sanely find fault with the appeal of a well engineered beautiful machine that is a pleasure to ride and could be purchased with a much smaller pile of cash than it took to purchase a Harley Davidson big twin. Also the gas tank was enlarged from 4.2 to 5.0 gallons and the frame was made more rigid and trail was increased from 4.8 to 6.3 inches for improved handling. 1998 Kawasaki VULCAN 1500 CLEAN BIKE While a whole lot of people found the original Vulcan 1500 to be stylistically challenged there could be no such argument when it came to the Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic. There is a massive after market for these machines offering an extensive range of performance upgrades and accessories to modify the machine into any individual's ideal cruiser whether that be long distance mile muncher or boulevard muscle bike. the braking is strong with good feel and impressive emergency stopping distances from 60mph have been obtained in formal road testing.
